Rusty oil pan?

I was under my truck doing some maint. when I noticed a few bubbles on the oil pan. I wire brushed them so I could paint, and when I looked again, the oil was showing through! Does anyone know the Cummins part number for an oil pan on an04. 5? I guess 267,000 miles of plowing and New England winters has taken it's toll.

Don't know the Cummins # but here is the Dodge/Ram # and the pan gasket #.

Have the new pan Rhino-lined (or similar) prior to installation.

Just to let everyone know, the Cummins part number for the pan is 3949769 and the gasket number is 3958165. Total price, $502. 95! OUCH! Stop it I'm bleeding.

Before i spent $500 on an oil pan i would find a good welder to see if they could patch it

I would call Cummins with your engine ID# and get a price.

Please pay attention! 1:I have always found Cummins to be less expensive than any online seller. That IS the price from Cummins. How do you think I got the part number and price? 2: It is corroded, not damaged. Weld one spot today and another tomorrow. If patching it was a viable option, I would have done it myself. 3: That alum. Pan is a TRANS. Pan.

just my 2 cents , but I figure $500 is cheaper than $6000 for a new engine. lucky you found it instead of it dumping all the oil at highway speeds ! I'm a big fan of powdercoating parts . anyway ,good luck to you.

This is one of the unintended consequences of engines that don't leak oil. It was also an issue on older Fords with the 351 engine, I've even seen valve cover bolts rusted beyond recognition. Ford's very sparse paint jobs on those engines didn't help either.



This wasn't an issue back in the old days when most engines were slobbered in oil and grime by the time (if) they reached 100K miles.
