RV campgrounds you've used and rate them

I wanted to start this thread to see what campgrounds were used and how you liked them.

I've used River View Park CG in Vidalia LA just across the Mississippi river from Natchez MS. It offers some beautiful views of the river full hook ups 30A and 50A with pull thrus. and has all amenities Laundry, pool clubhouse etc. tax and all was around $43/day for a premium spot with river view. A little pricey I thought but they don't have much competition here.

OCEAN LAKES CAMPGROUND, Myrtle Beach, SC Excellent facility, well maintained. Price is right and location is superb! Been there 7 times, never been disappointed.

They have Beach front sites with concrete pads, palm trees and full utilities including telephone. Also have large sites with shade trees further back off beach. Indoor and large outdoor pool, Golf cart rentals. Check 'em out!

We stayed 2 nights at Sequoyah Caverns just above Ft. Payne



Beautiful valley. Almost no one there. There is the cave tour but we missed it. We had to leave at 10:00 am Sunday morning and the staff was at church. Very quite and secluded.

Has anyone stayed anywhere around Furnace Creek, Death Valley? We're thinking of heading that way when the kids are out of school in March. We have the info from a website, but I'd like to get some "on the ground" info.



Collier State Park (Oregon, north of K-Falls on 97) is a nice campground. Full hookups, always very clean. Right next to the Williamson River. Not super fancy, but we always stay there when coming back to Reno from the Great Northwest.

In the pacific northwest the army corp of engineers have campgrounds that for the most part go unused... most are full hookups and are around the dams and other projects they have... if you get to one of their visitors centers look for the book that lists them all... . they actually have them across the nation but I've only used 3 or 4 in WA, ID,



I also picked up a Thousand trails membership USED for 750 plus the transfer fee... and annual dues of 500 bucks... we are getting older and spending more time in the 5th wheel... . and we've found this as a simple way to make it easy... you can say 10 days in some spots and 2 weeks in others... . but we travel enough to make it worth our dime..... It wouldn't pay if we had to pay the list price of this program... .



When I was in Furnace Creek... . in April or May... we stayed in a motel... and they were closing for the summer... . it was getting too hot... . well over 100* every day... . I don't remember seeing a camp ground or RV park there... however some of the motels did have spaces... . If you've never been to Furnace Creek please check up on it... we left going up the mountain. . it was 110* and by the time we got to Lone Pine, AMink is that right, Lone Pine... it was like 35* and going over the pass to Reno it was snowing... Not much of a problem except we were on Goldwings and I froze my a** off..... Anyway a trip to Death Valley requires good planning and I'm guessing I'd never go there in June - Sept... .

Thanks jelag, we will look more into it before going. I know the temps and other weather factors can change quickly in that area. We used to Goldwing too, until the kids came alone.

Guadalupe river rv resort in Kerrville, TX. Hermosa meadows in Durango, Co. Can't think of the one in Las Cruces NM I like and there is one in Williams AZ close to the Grand Canyon that I like as well. One in Antonita Co. also that is close to Pagosa Springs and wolf creek pass. I guess it seems I like a bunch of them.

Yes, many of the Corps of Engineer parks are modern with hookups and are underutilized. Since our RV is a slide-in truck camper and will fit in almost any size RV site, we prefer to park in Corps of Engineer, state, city and county parks. We carry a directory of Corps parks and one for the city and county parks with us and our GPS is an excellent aid for finding many of the scenic "off the main road" parks.

I liked the Grand Tetons for all of the above.

I got a camp ground directery from trailer life [ $20 ] and it rates all RV camp grounds. they are rated by layout,view, cleanleness and facilities. I've found them quite acurate. Our favorite is twin river RV park in moey idaho. Not the facilites but the view and waching the eagles and osprey fish. It is a little bit of a steep grade going in but my old ford handled it fine. robert

Another RV Park we really liked was Denali NP, Alaska. It was reasonable in price, the view was spectacular, it was clean and much more.

I stayed at Romers retreat near Lancaster. I didnt get a shaded spot, I dont think they have many.

The locomotive next door wan pretty neat, but if the wind is out of the west... . be ready. I think it's fired by gear oil over a cool flame. VERY SMOKEY!!

I wasnt impressed with them.

I loved Old mill stream. It's within walking distance to all sorts of shopping... yet it's fairly secluded. If you dont want to get woken up early, get a spot off to the right. The left side borders the "Dutch wonderland" and they "test" the roller coaster every morning... . EARLY!!!

NJ:

Butterfly in Jackson NJ was OK. Indian rock is OK. I've been to one I thought I'd have to shoot my way out. I think it was Maple lake? All of these are in Jackson.

Scrubby pines in Manahawkin was nice.

Down by Atlantic city, Bluberry hill was nice.

Pomona (IIRC) was at the end of the runway for AC intl airport. #@$%!



Wading pines in Chatsworth wan a nice clean place. Quiet! No cell phone coverage though. Nice place if you'd like to drop off the grid for a while.

I dont live too far from Surf and stream. It's not a very nice place to camp at.

I had a good friend that had a seasonal place in the Sea pirate in West creek. He passed about 10 years ago, but I think it's still a nice place.

I think Jenny Lake was very nice. I was in the hiker/biker area which is really quiet.

I'm curious about if Platte River Campground is listed in your book and how it rates. It's a little under an hour from me and close to Lake Michigan in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. We've always stayed in the walk-in sites, but last time we had our bikes and rode thru the RV areas and I was shocked at how BIG the sites are. I think a lot of them were large enough you couldn't see your neighbors. (well, maybe if you're trying... . )

Search for, Corps of Engineers Campground Guide. The guide can be obtained from any Corps of Engineers Resident Office or Corps of Engineers Recreational Park. You may be able to order it online.
