Looking to buy a TT next year some time. My wife and I really like the Arctic Fox line. The problem is all the RV's we've looked at have a "prison grade" mattress on the main bed. I was wondering if a regular queen size mattress could be switched? Anyone ever done this? I would hate to go out and spend thousands on a trailer, only to wind up staying in motels every night because my wife hates the bed.

Anyone?

I hear ya

We added a 4" thick pieces of HIGH QUALITY foam to the matress

Its like sleeping on cloud 9  it is awesome, just don't buy any cheap low density foam :(

And regular sheets work perfect on the combo too ;)

nighty night :)

We ordered a new SunnyBrook TT with out the mattress. The guy thought I was nuts. I found a local company that makes bedding. I had a pillow top, top of the line, made for it. Our TT uses the "short" queen, 75" instead of 80" long. Got it for $125. 00. One of the best upgrades we have done so far!

I had the dealer take the mattress out of my new trailer, so I could use the one from my old trailer. It's a full mattress that I've had for a few years in the house and replaced with a queen. The full mattress is the same length as the RV mattresses but narrower. I cut down the width of the bed board a couple of inches to fit.

Not only is it better for my back, it gives us a couple of extra inches to walk around it. You'd be surprised how a couple of extra inches helps out in the small TT bedrooms.

If you need the extra width of the queen, I guess my suggestion isn't for you :)

Big E,

My Wife and I have a King Size Select Comfort dual chamber air bed in our home and like it VERY much.

A few months ago we ordered one of their shortened Queens for our Travel Trailer. Fits just like the original but incredably more comfortable. It has separately adjustable air chambers, so we can each set firmness the way we like it. They're a little on the expensive side but sure worth it when the TT bed feels just like the one at home. I use a small 12V to 110VAC Inverter, when it's necessary to change the settings. You probably have to be careful if you set the pressure to a "firm" setting at sea level and then go up to 7,000 feet... ... :rolleyes: :{

Good Luck,

Frank

There are other air mattresses on the market, both retail and online. One I have been looking at is the Bear brand. They advertise in the trailer magazines. I don't know who makes the beds but there are three places on the web that have the same pictures and narrative descriptions. Two of them have different names but the same address and phone number.

We have an Arctic Fox 27-5L 5er (see sig), which has a 60x80 inch mattress. It is fairly comfortable, but we added a 2" egg-crate foam top to it, and it's even better now. Which Fox are you looking at? Most of them do not have standard size mattersses.

Big E: You should go to Automate RV in LosBanos, which is just down the road from you. They will almost custom make a TT for you. Just what you want. They will deal with you. Ofter them about 10% from their price. Very hig quality. We love ours

Thanks to all that replied. I knew there had to be a catch. Couldn't just throw in a standard mattress, that would be too easy.

The Fox model we both liked the most was the 26X. I was kind of leaning towards a Fiver, but the wife absolutely does not like the elevated bedroom. I also would like to be able to use the bed of the truck for my atv or whatever else I feel I need to drag with me.

I still have a boat and a hot tub to pay off. Once those are taken care of I will start looking more at what my options are.

I think the custom foam is the best and cheapest way to go. We have a King Of The Road fiver and we didn't care for the mattress.

There is a foam shop up the road and we stopped by there and they had several different density's of foam to try out. We lay down on all of them and came up with one that suited us.

We made a decision and had them make it for an exact fit. Works great and it more comfortable that our bed in the house. It wasn't cheap by any means. I think it was around $300. 00 if my failing memory serves me right.
