rv spare tire winch repair??

My spare tire winch has failed on my 5th wheel . It seems the cable has bound up inside the mechanism. I've contacted the manufacturer (Newmar) but they don't have any replacement parts. My model/floorplan which a 2001 is no longer made. Can I take it apart myself ?? has anybody done this?? I've even contacted a manufacturer who seems to have made a similar part for Dodge but he couldn't help. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't see why not, it isn't working as it is, you may just mistakenly fix it.
