trailer tire suggestions?

Trailer tire wear

For you RVers: I have an 18' canoe to carry with a 5th wheel. It's too long to carry on top of the truck sticking forward. Do any of you carry a canoe on top of a 5th wheel? How do you secure or mount it? Know of any mounts made for this? Thanks!

I carry either a 16ft. canoe or a 17 ft. kayak on top of my truck sticking out forward over the hood. Since I have a front receiver, I have made a "T" shaped support that comes up in front of the bumper and holds the front of the canoe. I tie it down with ratchet straps. I use a Yakama bar with canoe clips on the roof of the truck. I have had no problems at highway speeds and in cross winds. The key is good tie down straps and solid support.

If your camper has a "roof rack" on it you can attach it to that. We have a ladder up the back of the camper and when you get on top there is a railing that runs up about 9 feet up both sides.

We carry two 14 ft. kayaks up there. Made a nice little rack out of PVC and use the camper railing to secure it. It will not come off. It is really on there.

If you have a rubber or vinyl roof you would need to be careful not to puncture the membrane. We use swim noodles taped around the PVC to protect the roof. The kayaks sit on the swim noodles and everthing is strapped to the rails. The trick is getting them up there. I have never done it alone. But it is possible.
