I just got done removing my old steering gear in preparation for installing my new PSC unit (model 841M). In comparing the two, I notice that the original steering gear has what looks like a small ball check valve in the input port where the power steering line attaches. The new PSC unit does not have any check valve in it. Has anybody else who has switched to a PSC unit noticed this? I can't see anyway to remove the valve and switch it over to the new unit, and I'm not even sure it is necessary or recommended. Anybody know or have any experience with this? I'm hoping I don't have to wait until Monday to call PSC before putting her back together.

I have both the PSC pump and Box, however I installed it a while back and forgot. I think the ball is a back flow preventer I am not sure, I forgot. When you find out let me know.

I put one on my 2000 but don't remember having to pull anything off the original box to put on the PSC unit.

I just put my box on my 2000 about 2 weeks ago and didn't notice anything but I also wasn't looking for anything. I think you will be fine if you just put it on.

Just a follow up. I went ahead and put the steering gear on with no problems. I called PSC just to double check, and they said the valve wasn't needed, but they didn't go into detail as to why they leave them out?

As for the box, what a difference! It tightened my steering up great. In the past I've added a new track bar (Lindstad), dual steering stabilizer, and DSS. While all these helped some, the PSC steering box made the greatest difference by far. I may go ahead and replace the drag link and tie rods (99Kmiles), but they still seemed fairly tight when I checked them.
