Alright guys out there, I know you can help me with this, please dont harp on my user name to much as i did not select it, it never asked me for one, im workin on gettin it changed, anyway heres the story.

I have a 2001 dodge cummins (of course) 6spd, 4x4 only performance upgrade is a edge ez blah blah blah. . Well i was on my way to work the other day and my truck died it felt like somone had shut the key off, no chug, no rough running just stoped, i got over to the side of the road and called a tow truck, while i was waiting i checked a few things. I fueled up the other day so i knew i didnt just run out, non the less i still pulled the top of the fuel filter off to make sure, check, next i cracked a injector line, check, (i was worried of a VP44 failure), then i checked the self diagnostic codes, p0122, p0500, p0460 and a p1693, ok nothing new( these are the same codes i've had for a while now) the only one to half way worry bout was the p0122 which is low voltage at the apps, its thrown that code for awhile now( i know i know i shoulda just replaced it, im a cheap *** and it still ran) After all of this the tow truck finally gets there, i get towed home and take my roomates truck to work.

Now for some more background, for about a month now i have been gettin what I called a dead pedal, it only happened while i had the cruise on, there would be the clunk of the cruise shutting off and then you would try to run the throttle normal and nothin, if you pushed the clutch in and let the RPM's return to idle it would be just fine, off you went, I attributed that to the Apps, so i never worried a whole lot, Well first thing after I had it towed home is I called my buddy who had a spare Apps, I swapped it in and reset it, still nothing. So I figured i would take so mechanical fuel pressure readings from the 2 test ports, both ports came out the same, 4-8PSI while cranking(dependin upon how long you cranked) and when you released and just left the key in the on and let the lift pump run it would hit 12-14 PSI and then as soon as it was done running pressure would drop almost immeditaly

I hooked a generic scan tool up to it last night and I couldnt even get it to communicate to the truck so I called the dealership and it goes in, in a coulple of days, I just figured i would see if you guys had any suggestion or anything else to do, Im pretty desperate, and if it happens to be the VP44 and the lift pump it may just become a new project for a 12V swap cause it has the hated 53 block also and i dont wann drop a whole lotta money in it if im not gunna keep it(its posted in the classifieds right now)

How was the for my first post on the TDR

I'm kinda interested in the user name. . I mean, thats pretty wierd how the system randomly selected it for ya. . :-laf

Check your crank sensor. I had the same codes, same problem only mine would evetually fire and run again. New cps and no more codes.

Do yourself a big favor and pull the steering column covers and check the wiring going into the the connectors. My truck just flat died on me twice before I figured out I had a broken wire to the key switch. (Big Red One). This was caused by Dodge not putting in a long enough harness to allow for the flex in the tilt wheel.

Short story is that Dodge replaced it on warranty and there have been 3 revisions of this dash harness between the time I bought my truck on July 3 of 2000 and when they replaced the harness, last summer. ;)

i had the ctd die on me without any warning, the 1693 code was read and what i found was the edge ez had failed ,i disconnected the batterys and the ez, waited about 20 min and then connected the batterys recet the apps. it was fine for the 100 miles home, sent in the ez and recieved a new one and now runs fine.

Highgear, when your EZ failed, did you try removing it and re-starting the truck without pulling the battery cables? When mine died, I pulled the EZ out, but still wouldn't start. Waited 40 minutes, and it started like nothing happened.

I wonder if the wait somehow allowed time for the ECM to reset, which is what pulling the battery cables accomplished faster?
