Steve, what kind of wheels do you use with that field piece?

Justin, alot of good advise has been given here but what is your reason for owning it? My first pistol that I bought when I turned 21 was a Redhawk and I still own it after 20 years. Not a self defense gun, more hunting and target shooting than anything. My self defense guns are a compact frame Taurus 357, Ruger P85 in 9mm early production, and Megastar in 45 ACP, none of which go hunting. Start going to shooting ranges and alot of guys will let you shoot their guns if you are reasonable. You'll find what you want that way.

Depending on what you want to do, I'd stick with what a believe to be the best revolver made (and in Wyoming nonetheless) http://www.freedomarms.com/ in 475 or 500 Linebaugh for hunting and maybe 41 Mag for more plinking. Spendy but once you handle one you'll know why!

J-- the Freedom Arms guns look like good replicas, but I want a more modern grip design, with modern cushy comfort. Those wood grips look great but don't tame the kick any. Are my assumptions way off?



I'd be willing to shoot one to try it out.



I like the newer revolvers based on the Redhawk/Raging Bull/Python style with beefy frames. They also have nice aftermarket-style grips.



You have a FA gun I could shoot? I'd buy the ammo, of course...

All I've got is my Para P-14 . 45 (you are more than welcome to shoot it, it's a pup. ) I wish I had a freedom, never shot one. My buddy's dad has a custom built 500 Linebaugh that was quite similiar to the Freedom before the 475 and 500 could be built in any sort of production gun but I had a couple beers and decided I had better wait to pull the trigger. Next time I'm in Cody I'm shooting that sucker.

About the Taurus

I use to own a Taurus . 357 Mag 7 shot and heard great things about their service (lifetime warranty). I bought mine in either '99 or '00. Can't remember. Anyway, last year the gun started to "hang up" when working the double action dealing w/ the hammer. Also in single action the same thing would happen when trying to pull back the hammer.

Never got around to sending it to Florida for them to work on it so I traded it in on a Kimber 1911 . 45ACP 5".

Just givin' you my $. 02.



The largest calliber hand gun load I have shot is the 454. Managable, but not for CCW. Good hunting round too.

Desert Eagle

I have a 44 & 50 Desert Eagle (Magnum Research) and I love the guns. They have both had many rounds thought them (well into the 5,000+ range). The cost of 50 shells is a rip-off. If I din't have a shooting partner that reloaded, I would never shoot it as much.



The 44 is shot often by my wife (125lbs). The bark is worse than the bite. The recoil is very low. The only draw back is the eagles have a fairly large hand grip. I am 6-3 and the wife is 5-10, she has a little trouble but not bad.



By the way, I have a 10" barrell / 5 clips / and about 700 rounds for the 41 cal eagle I sold. If there is anybody with a 41, give me a pm.

My choice has always been a 3" model 629, full underlug, non-fluted cylinder. I load it either with 44 specila glaser saftey slugs, 44 Mag Black Talon or Hydra-Shock. Good medicine for man or beast, can be shot well by woman or child.

All this gun talk has me yearning for the new S&W 1911, I see it comes in 4" commander size :-laf . I like my 645, I'm proficient with 1911 pattern pistols carried cocked and locked. It's just all this gun smack going around has me yearning.

It's all TDRs fault. You guys should take up a fund for me or something.

Do yourself a favor and get an old Smith model 19. You can find them for between $225-$300. I got mine for some fishing gear that was gathering dust in the garage.

I have one in 4". It's handy and accurate. For the wife I load 38 special velocities. It's in a safe next to my bed.

Most important thing is safety, #2 is practice. . practice. . practice.
