They seem to always have a couple in stock locally at about $765. 00. The ammo is outrageously expensive so if you shoot it much you better plan on reloading. Recoil is similar to a hot load in a 4" 44mag, but nothing compared to the 329PD Titanium/Scandium 44 with hot loads. It's brutal! I bought the 329 this summer over the new 500. Decided I was a good boy and got the 500 for myself for Christmas. Love them both for their intended purpose. Jake

Just happened to see one yesterday at the gun show  quite a cannon I dont know much but it looked just like another great piece of work from S&W. Thank God it's comp'd would love the chance to fire one. Good luck but I would hurry

Hate to be a dirty, low-down rat burglarizing some old boy's house and run into the barrel of that thing  . Needless to say, there may be a brown streak of a malodorous substance out the front door :-laf .

That's one nice looking cannon..... err... ... . handgun. Does Teddy Kennedy own one of those???

We ran some rounds through one a while back when they first came out. After 50 rounds it wouldn't index properly. I'd look into a freedom arms handgun first. They are much better made but there cost reflects there quality. We discussed this a while back. Check this this thread out.

Thanks for the replys, the local dealer has one for $729. Freedom arms are not MA complient so they cannot be purchased here or brought in. Hopefully they have fixed the initial problems they had with them, just be a neat toy to have.

AT the indoor range/ gun store(www.impactguns.com) I work at part time we have a 500 that we rent. It has better than 3000 round through it and still shoots really well!! It is a handful to just hold out at arms length. I have also shot one of the 4" barrel model also. I have been really impressed with how well it shoots. If I owned one I would have to reload for it.

After looking at the 500 again, the 8 3/8" barrel version, I ended up getting a very lightly used Ruger super redhawk 454 Casull for a little more than half the price of the 500. Going to take it to the range this weekend, good thing is I can shoot the Colt 45 in it at the indoor range if the weather is not good enough to shoot at the outdoor range.

Casull

Bertram65 ,

You will love the casull. Not only was the gun cheaper (price) the rounds are far less.

I love mine. Let me know what you think of it.

I got to look at a used . 500 S&W at a gun shop and it seemed like a really nice piece, other than it needing a couple of wheels and a hitch on it. :-laf :-laf :-laf They only wanted $479 for it.
