they way I do S300's on 2nd gens is to cut the drain tube in half... I took about an inch out of mine. mount the stub to the turbo, hang the turbo, slide the other part of the tube into the hose at the block and connect the two w/ a length of oil rated hose.

about a thousand times easier than trying to wrestle the complete tube!

das nice...

if i hadnt already spent the time on mine that woulda been the route i took

"now he tells me"... lol

you ever notice how the factory uses 3/4" id tubing on the drain, but that the flange has a 5/8 hole drilled in it?

duh...

also, 3/4 id tubing is 7/8 on the od or -14

you cant get -14 AN hose anymore...

yea, more fun...

i can get -14 or metric equiv in a silicon hose, however it is pricey...

i got the top handled yesterday, now i just have to find a 7/8 90° to replace the pc i squished and wait for the silicon hose to show up

(didnt think of taking a pic before i started opening up one side but i think you will get the jest of it)

Looked like your problem was the nut/weld job on the actuator rod. What happened there? Did it come that way? My HTT 66 isn't like that. Hope that isn't an upgrade. I've installed a s300 on two first gen's, 89 and 91. 5 and all I did was slightly bend the tube in the bench vise, then die grind a tiny bit of material off to clear the rod. I can see if I had the weld job/nut in the way I'd have problems like you did.

You haven't seen oil drain install issues until you're working with a charger that has a 3/4" adaptor plate to bolt to the stock manifold:eek:.

Oh and do yourself a favor and go back to Cummins and get 3 or 4 'Cummins' turbo oil drain gaskets. I don't have much luck nor care for the el cheapo oil drain gaskets that come with turbo purchases, sometimes they are Schwitzer gaskets, but still I prefer the $1 and change Cummins gasket. Since they are cheap, it's nice to have some on hand for when you swap housings or chargers.

yupp, it came that way

was wondering if they always welded it on right there so it would run into the drain or if they just knew who this one was going to...

glad yours are fine

don

ps - was at cummins again today getting ex manifold gaskets and the guy asked me if i wanted a turbo drain gskt too...

i didnt get one but i will

why do you have a feeling i will be swapping out housings?

lol

actually, i dont think i will be removing the drain again for a while. set up like i have it now i can leave it bolted to the turbo and just remove the hose...

hey brad, is the 'flexible line' you were referring to?

well, we use it on a A/Fuel car to couple the hard lines together and it laughs at the nitro

and nitro (ch3no2) eats pretty much everything

if nitro doesnt faze the stuff i am not worried about running motor oil thru it

should i be?

From what I have seen it swells up real bad then starts to delaminate. The Fords are even having problems with their charge air hoses due to pvc oiling the hoses. The fix there has been to go to a flouro something liner.
