How many chances do you give your vendor....

Carbon Fiber Heat Shield

How many people have ran these and how do they perform. Just a question. Looking for a better turbo and found some of these pretty cheap. Thanks

My Bd super b is a 300 and it a good turbo. I like it and it has been a great addition. I may need to upgrade though, as my hp level has gone up considerably. Good towing turbo. I would go through Industrialinjection.com if I were looking for a turbo. Thats where I am going for my next turbo. Talk to Brett. He'll get set up!

The stock S300 has been known to surge a little on certain trucks. Appears to be more prevalent on autos for some reason. You can pick up a stock one pretty cheap. The S300 that BD sells as the "Super B" is not stock. It is customized by AirWerks, a performance division of BorgWarner, to perform better on our trucks than the stock version. I doesn't surge. Just FYI.....

Brians right there - it doesn't surge at all and it does a wonderful job dealing with low rpms. When I tow @65 I am only turning 1750 rpms, and regardless of fueling box situation this turbo has had no problems running with a load at that rpm range. I just set the cruise and go and the turbo has been happy to work for me. Yielded a milage increase too. Less drive pressure, I think from the larger housing, plus possibly a cooler charge? Been a good turbo, and has only barked hard once or twice maybe. My fault when that happened.

Super B... immediately after installing mine, sitting in the driveway, in neutral, the truck smoked a lot when hitting the throttle. . before installation I couldn't make my truck smoke. Checked the boot, not other mods installed at the same time except for guages and an ATS exhaust manifold. I do notice that the turbo oil drain is against the wastegate actuating rod, preventing it from moving. I really have to light foot it when taking off so avoid smoke... would that wastegate actuator cause this? I was under the impression that the wastegate only came into operation when the boost became high. Any replies would be most welcome:)

Thanks in advance,

Hope I'm not hijacking a thread!

The wastegate only actuates when boost gets higher. I believe the ful open position is around 45psi. My guess is that the larger houseing is slowing down spool up slightly and the smoke is from your added fueling. I assume that once boost picks up the smoke clears? Maybe you are dumoing way too much fuel at the low rpms and bogging it down. Don't know if you have an auto or stick, but that may play into it also.

Also, you can "clock" the housings to get the drain line away from the wastgate actuator rod. Your instructions can tell you how. Its easy. If not, all you need to do is lossen the 4 bolts from the bearing housing to the exhaust housing slightly and the bearing housing and compressor housing will rotate. If needed, loosen the compressor housing as well and line everything up. Good luck!

I've been happy with my BD Super B so far. Of course there is always room for improvement (bigger), but it seems to work well, and is definitely a great towing turbo, as has been already stated.

In comparison how is the S300 sized to the PDR HX 40 as far as capability and horsepower levels. Are they about the same or is there a big difference.
