I picked up a new/used turbo last night. On the phone the guy told me it was a S300G, but I get there and the intake housing says HX40. He swore to me that he had it measured at a reputable shop and the measurements are the same as the S300G that I want ( 57/65/14). Are there any casted numbers I can look at to confirm this ?

First off, I'd be leery if the guy didn't even know what he had. The exhaust housing can be verified by the casting number, but the other measurements have to be verified by removing the housing and measuring the compressor or exducer wheels. If it's less than $500, and a genuine Holset, I'd say gamble on it. You said it's a new or used? New, it's a steal, no matter what it is, if it's a Holset, but if it's used, I wouldn't go over $300, as you don't know what's been done to it. That's not that common of a configuration for the HX40. Typically, they're closer to a 56-58/72-74 for the 8 blade inducer... . The 6 and 7 blade inducer wheel is usually around 60mm... ... Still, it may work well for you, and they may be measuring it differently than some others... . I've seen guys measure stuff and wonder how the heck they came up with thier numbers... . Of course, money talks!! :D

Did he say what shop he used? Could you call and verify?

Well, naturally he will no longer answer my texts. No matter, I'll recover and move on. :) It's an 8 blade inducer, used, no shaft play and appears to be in pretty good condition. I have a local sale/trade in the works to a friend building a P-Pumped Suburban 4x4, so I shouldn't have have a problem getting rid of it.
