EGT's

Hey I have a good friend of mine that has to go to a military school in sacramento and we are from Missouri his truck is not quite "legal" here but nothing is said about it. He has a 7. 3 power choker I mean stroker and it has straight pipe and a couple chips (smoke rolls every shift ) He wants to know how bad is going to be for him for the 2 month school and What he needs to know about the emissions standards out their

SSwords,

No smog control here on diesel's. If it is too obnoxious I would imagine the the wrong cop would give him a ticket for noise, but on the smoke, mine smokes if I get on it and no problems yet.

As long as he's not permanently moving to CA, he won't be subject to their emissions laws. That's not to say he won't get pulled over A LOT for the amount of smoke he's putting out. As long as he's legal in MO, he should be ok in CA if not a permanent resident.

Here in CA you could get a "fix-et" ticket for a few things.

Loud/modifed exhaust or excessive smoke. I dont have the vehicle code with me but both of those sections can be either a ticket to fix or a fine, but no points on your driving record. Mostly CHP or some bored F. N. G. in a small town would ticket him for these.

No emissions laws on diesel, but if you were to register an out of state federal vehicle here you would have to pay a fee through DMV.

They do issue smoke tickets here but if he can control it to just a puff at shifts he should be fine. We do HAVE emmision laws for diesels we do NOT have emmissions testing yet.

I wouldn't expect a problem. You should see what drives on our roads everyday without getting ticketed. Cops here aren't especially hard on that kind of stuff. Don't do something else to get yourself noticed and I doubt they'd care about a little smoke.

Im not quite sure what the law is, but a friend of mine that moved here from Idaho said the DMV told them that if they were living in the state longer than 10 days they have to register their vehical with the dmv under temporary resident status. Not quite sure about the process, but something to keep in mine. Personally all my vehicals are registered in Montana and I live Here in Ca, and haven't had and issues yet.

If you get stopped in your Montana registered vehicle with a CA drivers license you could be cited for an improperly registered vehicle - YOU are a CA resident and required to register your vehicles here.

The original poster's friend is not a CA resident - exemption for active duty military folks - and won't have any registration problems. He could have emission equipment problems though.
