Well guys... . it is a sad day... ..... one of our own guys, someone who has helped push the edge of the 1st gen performance levels, made brave (read lunatic) runs on the highway and dyno ( I remember he took Piers for a run some time ago and all I saw was eyeballs and mustache when Piers came back), has left us... ... ... ... ... ... . (>>>HATS OFF, MOMENT OF SILENCE HERE<<<)

Yup, I hate to say it but... ... ... ... ... ..... nascar "wildman, I don't know my pyro don't go that high, besides who cares" wilson is no more... ... ... ... .

He went and did it over the weekend... ... ... . sad but true.....

He did the "big conversion"..... to a P-Pump motor.

So, " yerrrrr outta here-->>>>>. . " ;);):D

"Let us not grieve for our misguided brother, but instead..... beat him with the shop manual from the 1st gen truck... ;) :D

Now the good news (depending on your point of view)... That leaves just me and 'Hang On" Harry Kelleher with the only Gen one's at the shop... .

The best news is my younger brother is stepping up to the plate BIG TIME, this spring.

He's already done the NV4500 conversion with the clutch conversion so he's ready for the air system...

He was in today adding up numbers... . kid is just plain crazy... . course it seems to run in the family I'm told...

Pastor Bob... . Two verses of "Nearer My Pump To Thee"... ... .

Bob, When are we going to see some reports on the P-pumped first gen? I think alot of us would like to see how it performs.

Chris

I say "hang him by his P pump till his head gasket blows":-laf :-laf

Naw... . we can't blame him... actually we must applaud him... sounds like he read the last chapter of the Pastor's bible!!:--)

I'm still stuck on the introduction!!!:D

East Coast Jay

I don't know why changing to a p-pump is that big of a deal... it's the best pump cummins has used in the dodge trucks.

If I had the chance, I'd switch at the drop of a hat. The p-pump is more rugged by far, and flows A LOT more fuel.

The P series pumps are found throughout industry. Wonder why it took so long to get one on the pickup truck engine:confused:

I do know the P pump will not tolerate high rpm's. Wonder what is done to compensate/remedy this:confused:

... torches and pitchforks... :-laf

WHat's the big deal???

I'll tell ya what it is CB Parker- the R&D has been done for the P pump motors to about 800 RWHP. Since the second gen engines are also 12 valves, what Nascar Mark has done is basically converted it to a 2nd gen engine in a 1st gen body. WHat we here in the first Gen forum seek to do is prove that the old VE (circa 1976) can be just as good in the first gens as a P7100 is in the second gens for fuel flow, reliability, longevity.

BUt, had I the money, I may look into the conversion, too. Nah, I'd just get a new VE and have it hotted up by a reputable shop. :)

Daniel

Down boy, easy. . . easy.

The P7100 was available back then.

Therefore it was in stock at Bosch shops.

Therefore it was stock :D

What you really have to watch out for, and what is truly an outrage :D is the folks who talk about putting a VP44 into a 12 valve

If it would have been anybody else I would have giving a good ribbin' to them, but to Mark I ain't gonna say a thing! He might not help me out next time I call for tech support!

To me I'll stick with my VE's as I am happy with them.

Michael

Well, 'ole mark just built a 12/p-pump motor from the ground up... that's what is in his truck now... not just a pump conversion... . what was he thinking... :D:D

Scott... the p-pump's can be run up over 4000 RPM, so that's not really a "can't handle high RPM" situation... .

So... ... come on guys... lets get with the program... . we need some good numbers to carry on the tradition of ... smoke and heat, heck ya, ain't it neat... . I had a fun morning today...

After an hour and half in traffic I finally made it onto one of our local bridges... at the other end, is a posted 10% grade that is a good 1/4 mile long...

So, as I pull into the inside lane to pass, a guy in his late model TransAm, wheels over in front of me...

Ok, no worries... I slide up behind him only to hear his dual exhaust start to sound off... hey, works for me... . So... lets do it...

I start out rolling into it at about 60 MPH in O. D.

I keep closing on his tail only to have to ease off so I don't hammer him... . on, off, on, off... till finally I get room on the right to move over... at 42psi boost and 1250*F I just roar on by... he finally gave up at exactly 105 MPH and in my rearview mirror..... heck I was only turning about 3000 RPM at that point too... I had about 400 RPM and a couple hundred degree's left to go... gotta luv it guys... . :D:D:D

Actually, I was a bit surprised with the results, but hey, I'll take it any way I can get it... hey, it was a GM too... ahhhh yes, there is a god...

Pastor Bob.

Aaahhh, come on guys!!!

Just because I want a little more power... . say 700rwhp :D You going to kick me to the curb so quick. :p

While the Pastor has been chasing the choir boys, I've been busy. :-laf

I swapped out Piers's 386hp 1st gen shop engine for the engine I've been building for a while.

Before you give up on me I actually did things the hard way and stayed with the properly valved engine. I started with a 24v H. O. motor and built a 12v with performance pistons, balanced bottom end, block girdle, our new camshaft and lifters, O-ringed block, . 010" head gasket, new stage 2 head with HD valve springs, stud kit, P7100 stupid pump with 4000rpm gsk's, 191 dv's, custom race plate and 370 inj's. Our HX40/16-HT3B/26 1st gen twin turbo kit will finish the engine off this week. :D

Then there is the transmission work.

Bill K is reworking my transmission with billet input, 93% lockup TC and valve body, updated servo and accumulator. :)

I dropped the tank and made a 3/8" pick up system from tank to engine. Built a custom intercooler and installed it the proper way. Lengthened the front drive shaft and shortened the rear drive. Installed the front transmission cooler below the rad for cooler air also.

Next project will be custom ladder bars to hold the rear end twist.

Lifes good... . Grab the ram by the horns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P. S.

Bob, that doesn't mean having your way with the farm animals. :--)

Jeez Mark, what'd ya do, win the lotto?:D

Sounds like an interesting motor you have put together. How long of a break in before you put it on the dyno? (after the transmission and everything gets done)

Hmmmmm, whats the story behind the farm animals? anything you'd care to share?

Hey Pastor, before you penalize me, just want to ask if you walked around with a smile the WHOLE day? I sure would have!:D

Stan

Bob, good kill on the "transmarowbird" Ha, would love to be a fly on the wall at his house. I can hear it now, "there was this nut in this really big truck, an' it was smokin' all over the place, an' it run my butt into the dirt" Then, he calls his superduper tuner and yells in his ear, "there was this nut in this truck,ect--I thought you said this thing was gonna be fast! I got my lugnuts adjusted by a pick-up truck" YOU SUCK!!

So, the mechanic giggles 'cause he has a CTD sittin' in the back.

Mark, well, I guess it ain't all bad. At least you are still properly valved. I guess we can call you "mulatto Mark" from now on. he he he

Sorry

Dave

Good for you, Mark. I'll expect a test ride... . note that''s not drive, when I come up in a couple of months for my second VP44 in less than a year :(

Joe

Bob, I don't see a problem with this change over, nice to see Mark step up the HP. I was gettin' all giddy when we were talking about it last week.

Jim

farm animals...

Probably some perverted proceedure that first requires the aquisition of a pair of cowboy boots. :-laf :-laf

Now I only HEARD about that sort of thing... . trust me..... never actually thought anybody ever done it... .

That ain't what ya'll call "tweakin' the pump" is it??

Jay

Ooooooo... that's gotta hurt... ... ;):D

Ok, I formally and unequivocably deny ANY carnival knowledge of farm animals... (judge told me it was a condition of my release. . :D)

Now, the only animal I have a passing acquaintance with is a RAM... :-laf

Next, that sneaky booger, thought he could slide it by us and called all you guys "choir boys"... . now that's not kosher... AND what about this ... .....

"... . I dropped my tank and made a 3/8 pick up... . " now that's kinda sad and braggin at the same time... . picking up indeed...

kinda like the fire department ..... more hose, more hose... . :D:D:D

Oh, and by the way, I can tell you why ole wildman is jumping ship on us too... ... . HE'S GOTTEN ENGAGED !!!!!!!!!... ..... and so comes to an end of the long reigning 1st Gen General... . a sad fate... . JK. . ;)

I don't know how the future "Mrs Mark" puts up with his shenanigans..... heck he wears his hat backwards too.....

Pastor Bob... to enter the confessional, use the passenger door...
