New Diesel from VW!!

I need a transfer tank to hual ag fuel with. I got this idea in my head to go look for a truck saddle tank. I could use the same brackets from the truck to bolt the tank to my flatbed and bulkhead. Anyone ever do this or have any other suggestions? This is strictly for transfer and not for additional truck fuel.

I put a rectangular saddle tank from a semi tractor in the bed of an old Isuzu diesel. Plumbed it into the overflow line with a manual valve. When the gauge read empty, I'd open the valve, and drive until the gauge read full. I was headed into Canada, and wasn't about to pay their fuel prices. I didn't have to add fuel for 2700 miles!!! Worked just fine. Ray

Sounds like an idea that would work but you might want to check on the rules for having ag fuel on board your truck on public roads. I have been stopped and had my tanks checked. You certainly would not want to get yourself in a bind over that.

It's pretty common to see pickups with transfer tanks around my neck of the woods. DOT can be pretty active so I stay away from the red fuel in the truck. I have every reciept and a mileage log anyway for the Dodge. I am looking for about a 100 gallion tank. I figure I could pick up one made from aluminum for a buck or so.

You might check with DeeZee in Des Moines, IA. I just saw a "warrantee return" tank in a truck. It leaked and was sent back. DeeZee sold it cheap, and for a couple bucks a radiator shop welded it up. Just a thought. Email me if you want the name of the fellow who has it. Ray

Ray,

Thanks for the suggestion. I can pick up a saddle tank for a buck or so. That's kind of hard to beat. I had looked at the specs on Dee Zee as well as a few others. Besides low budget, one reason a saddle tank appeals to me is the longer lengths available. My flatbed is fairly wide and one would set in nicely. I need to take a trip to this truck recycling yard near me soon.
