I am a little confused on the whole SAE oil specs. The owners manual on my '97 calls for CF4 15W40. I have always used Mobil 1 in my cars (not Delvac 1) with great results. Mobil 1 is only rated at CF. I was just on Amsoils website and their 3000 synthetic also only carries a CF2 rating, the other Amsoil diesel oils only carry a CF or CF2 ratings as well.

So, I guess my question is whats the difference and it would seem to me that none of the Amsoil products meet the specs?

What am I missing?

tjtrujillo,

Our engine oils require the CF-4, SJ (Heavy Duty Diesel oil ) rating. Don't put anything not rated CF-4, SJ in the engine.

Diesel engine motor oil is a much tougher oil than gasser oil. The CF-4 spec has the additive package to combat the strong acids proudced in a Cummmins and hold soot in suspension untill the filer can get it, and a stronger detergent additive to combat the soot.

Also make sure your oil is CF-4 oil also has an SJ rating along with it. Our engines require the SJ rating because of the sliding camshaft tappets. 99% of the Heavy/Severe Duty Diesel Oils have both of the ratings.

Both types of Amsoil's Heavy Duty Diesel Oils have the CH-4, SJ ratings. Either one of these is an excellent choice.

Thanks guys. I thought the CH4 designation was something different. I did not realize that it supersceded CF's.

When you get your pictures developed from the Milford Hooters meet, can you post them?. I think you are the only one who took pictures of all the trucks together when everybody was still there.

Thanks :)
