Boost is a misunderstood factor in general. I'm still getting it straight! More boost does not equal more power. Look for the sweet spot in the turbo's range where drive pressure is equal to, or just above, boost. You'll probably need the turnbuckle to modulate the boost, find 32-35 lbs and play with it in small increments from there.
 
My headgasket let loose at 48-50psi on a cold day also, from the oil passage on the front of the head... oil everywhere...
