Going to R&R injectors on my 07 5.9 and wanted to get some input on proper cleanup of the injector hole in the head & what others have done. I'll rely on a good mirror for the back two due to the cowl, but really looking for input as far as what others have used to make sure no debris is left behind and the new ones go in without a hitch. I've used lint free towels along with shop vacs in the past. Some Detroit diesels used to have a tool to clean up the bore but never heard of it for our trucks.
Thanks

I use a rifle bore brush for the 7mm hole for the tip. I clean the seat where the copper washer goes with Q-tips held in a cut off automotive 5/16" pushrod with the end partially flattened to hold the end of the Q-tip.

Snap on also has a special brass brush to do the job.The tip fits into the bore and it has a flat to clean the seatingsurface

You can buy the proper injector bore brush from Cummins themselves. There are two sizes p/n 3822509 & 3822510. I can't remember which is which. David

We use Vac, If there's Rust or corrosion we pull the Head and clean everything including the Valley Return, It's rare you will need to do anything more then Vac clean the bores. I've seen Cross tubes rusted so bad they look like a branch of a 50 year old oak tree.
