IF your stock... . Drive it. . both dodge and Cummins have to dealt with these issues... . picture it your driving next to me worrying aobut the EGT up a hill, me im just floored and driving :)



If your moded well don't go any higher then if you were stock :)

Good point, if I stay stock I will not even worry about EGT, but who want to stay stock : )

Considering the average combustion temperature is some where around 3300 degress in the cylinder. And with current emission standards being what they are. Seeing 1500 degress is a normal thing. It's all about the duration of combustion in the cylinder. Look at it this way. They are trying to keep peak firing pressure down to reduce high Nox. (High Nox form above 3300 degrees) So they inject fuel more than once, or at a later time to reduce NoX. In doing this, the fuel is burning at a later time in the cylinder. The less time the fuel has to burn before exhaust valve opens (meaning combustion is happening closer to bottom dead center) the higher the temperature you are going to see in the exhaust because the exhaust gases have less time to cool before the exhaust valves open.



It's the same thing as seeing a hotrod car with chrome headers that have turned blue due to excessive heat. The timing was to far after top dead center.
 
I have been considering a snow or other water/methanol setup for my 04. 5 I tow a small load, rock crawler jeep and trailer total weight at about5K. from your message to I understand that the snow setup does not lower the egt's? Money wasted if it doesn't lowere the temps... what do you think?
