I will not comment specifically on the transmission temp (I don't own autos ;)), but I would use 1300* as a pretty good EGT redline. You can make brief sprints beyond that, but don't stay there too long (I don't push beyond that for more than 15 seconds or so). Theoretically you could run all day at ~1200*, but I try to limit my time above 1150*. Of course there are those here who routinely see over 1400*:D

transmission fluid temps if measured at the hot line (not the pan) are best if kept 180 degrees or less. Over 220 for sustained periods is very bad. Temps can easily hit 260 when backing a trailer, especially up hill. At that temp seals start to harden and fluid

life is only about 7000 miles. Those temps are OK for very brief periods. After backing a trailer and if my transmission temps are around 260 or so, I leave the engine running with trans in N till my temp gauge shows 180 before I shut it off, even if the EGT gauge is showing 300 way before that.

A Cummins rep told me

1200 all day long

1300 1 minute

1400 10 seconds

who knows if he knew what he was talking about.

Deezul 1,

Yup, those are pretty much what I've been told many times.

1500*F = "Now I lay me down to sleep, the lord I pray my engine to keep... . " :D:D... OR Cherynobl real quick...

Bob.
