I'm not sure if this is the correct forum because I don't know what's causing this. I was driving home a few minutes ago & I heard three short chimes. My air bag, low fuel, ABS & check engine lights all came on. All 6 dash gauges went to zero & the odometer read No buS. The motor continues to run as if nothing happened. The key flip trick didn't bring up any codes but my Smarty pulled up a 1693 & a 1687. I restarted it several times. the motor sounds fine but the gauges are dead & the code won't clear. What gives??? Of immediate concern is if it is safe to drive like this. I'm scheduled to go over the hills & through the woods to Grandmothers house for Thanksgiving day tomorrow.

P1687 No MIC BUS Message No CCD/J1850 messages received from the Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) module.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in Companion Module A fault has been generated in the companion engine

control module.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM A 9Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM.

Hope these help. Mine does this off and on. Its driving me nuts but the engine has never quit.

darkhorse,

The problem on this previous post sounds similar to yours. This may help you find your issue. Sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks for the tip. I was just in the PDC checking fuses. In the morning, I'll check that connector. It went down very abruptly. I drove it 12 miles tonight to go feed the horses. It runs like nothing's wrong & the CC even works though I cant's see how fast I'm going. I can't find any thing that doesn't work except the dash gauges. I get a ccd reading on some of the overhead computer readout settings & all those warning lights are on.

Thanks, Kevin. My Smarty manual has these definitions in it. As far as I can tell, the 1693 is telling me that I have the 1687. "mechanical Instrument buss" hummm does this mean some elecrical connector came apart? Where would that be? The PCM?

Don't quote me but there should be a bus insinde the engine compartment and/or under the dash. (Bus=relay station for data. The instrument panel is the last component to receive the data. )
