I would like a response from someone with the expertise in the field of liability to respond. If I ignore this "safety recall' and later there is an accident involving property damage and or injury as a result of the truck not being all the way in park will I be exposed to greater liability?
Alan Reagan said:I'm curious if it picks up the signal from the position detector on the drivers side of the transmission. I had to finally adjust my cable so that when it was in Park, the "P" was illuminated. Mine would be in Park and the "R" would be lit. Or nothing lit. Finally, I adjusted the cable and fixed the problem. If that's where the signal is derived, my horn would have been beeping all the time.
Carlsummers said:I carried mine in for svc. yesterday and the svc writer told me about the recall. Told him that I had gotten the notice the day before and that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES were they to do this "fix". I explained to him that when DC decides to actually fix the problem and not just throw an alarm at it, then I will have that fix done. They did not perform the recall.
Jaysyl said:What happens in 6 months from now when I take my truck for some warranty work. Will they check my VIN and do this recall, even though I do not want it???
MackRock said:Where did you adjust your cable? Mine has gotten out of adjustment and won't encircle the "P" for park and the alarm goes off even when it's in park. I really don't want to have to take this to the dealer to fix if it's something I can get to.
Alan Reagan said:No. I was just curious about the alarm sounding while checking the fluid with the truck in neutral.
Alan Reagan said:The cable is adjusted under the dash. Actually, it's under the steering column. I had to remove the panel to get to it. There is a clip that holds the cable position. Pop the clip up, go under the truck, move the shifter where the cable connects to it into the full park position, go back topside and push the clip in until it locks. It's pretty simple.
Here's a link to the service manuals: http://www.hemitruckclub.com/
The transmission shift cable adjustment is in there.
