Well i just received my recall notice in the mail yesterday for the throttle cable linkage. The work can be performed at the local stealer. The question I have is, can this work be done at the local Cummins dealer instead, while using the recall? I dought it. How many have had this problem prior to the recall and what are the symptoms? Shutdown or runaway?

Cummins sells the engines to Dodge with no warranty, only the dealer can do the recall. Watch out if you have an auto, the dealers are notorious for getting the TPS adjustment out of whack and not checking it when doing this recall.

I got mine today also. I wonder what the stealer is gonna do when they see the check engine light, and notice that the CA emissions are missing. Any thoughts?

YAH

I am not very happy with the fact that the dealer with no certified diesel mechanic is goint to do this work. Alot of us are not either but it is OUR truck so we tend to be very carefull. Is there a tech bulitin I can print out and give it to the dealer's service dept for the mechanic. I will admit, The dealer I am going to is really good about this stuff. I feel pretty stupid about posting this before I looked to see if anyone else beat me to it. Well, what can you do.

Got mine today also. I guess when i make the appointment to have this done i will have them do my hood latch too.

illflem,

how will the truck act after they preform this recall and do not adjust the tps? Will it shift to fast, not shift. Thanks dont want to get screwed. Only went to the stealer once to get my valves adjusted.

When the dealer performed my recall they broke the TPS, and they made me pay for it (my fault I drove 5 minutes down the road before I clicked the O/D button and no overdrive  I guess I shold check those things in the parking lot  ) On top of that, they tried to charge me retail for the new one.

Only if the dealer did the repair, otherwise they will only pay for Dodge parts if you have a receipt. That's the way I went rather then trust them with my truck.

The recall is B-15,it is comprised of 2 balls and sockets for the throttle linkage. One of the ball studs being replaced is a bolt on the other is peened on and must be ground off. The Tps voltage does need to be adjusted after the recall is performed and is included in the recall.

I'm not lettin' the dealer near my pride and joy!! The last time I took it in for a recall the knuckleheads butchered the firewall insulation blanket!!! The fool took tin snips and cut off about a quarter of the blanket on the passenger side then taped the remainder up with aluminum tape!!! Needless to say I went ballistic and cornered the service manager and he agreed it was a mess!! He gave me a replacement firewall kit so the next time I pull the engine I can install it!!!! And this was a five star dealer!!! What a deal!! I'll get the parts and do it myself!!

Prime-Loc and Recall

Hello. If this is the same or a similar recall as done for the 1994-1996 versions, you will need to pay closer attention to the finished work if you have installed a Prime-Loc before the recall work is done. (If it is different, ignore everything after "hello. ")

The Prime-Loc gets in the way of installing and adjusting the link rod from the pivot to the fuel pump. If the jam nuts that hold the adjustment length in place are not tight enough, probnlems will result. Tightening the jam nuts with the Prine-Loc iun the way is a time-consuming nuisance not anticipated in the flat rate manual.

The jam nuts on mine loosened and changed the rod length, and reduced the amount of fuel that the pump produced.

Driving for a year with no trailer didn't indicate any problem, but it was immediately evident with a trailer, climbing the Black Canyon Grade. Below normal power (no smoke), and a binding linkage.

With 20 minutes and the TSM in the McDonalds truck lot at Cordes Junction, I was able to fix and readjust.

Been there done that ---

It’s more painful than any of you have described… I took my truck in last Thursday and waited two and one half hours while they screwed things up… I was under the impression that the throttle cable, that connects the bell crank at the TPS to the accelerator peddle, was to be replaced… I had looked at that as the total job and figured any half-wit could do that, without screwing up --- much … Well those were mistakes one and two. The dealer handled the rest. Yep they screwed up the TPS setting --- shifting from third to fourth took a bit of revving. So today I took out the shop manual and proceeded to reset the things by the book. The 5” setting was 5-3/8”. Now that’s no big deal just a simple adjustment --- Right? Turns out the rod adjustment the shop manual calls and the one in my truck aren’t the same. In fact the ones in my truck should be easier to work with --- there is an adjustment in the rear section of the rod that can be used to increase or decrease the over all length of the rod. You know the type thing; it’s a first cousin to a turnbuckle with one end right hand and the other end left hand threaded. A really nice arrangement, or at least it was until someone bent it out of shape and set one jam nut so tight it couldn’t be moved with the rod in the truck. I removed the rod and found the left hand thread section was jammed up so tight that I was barely able to get it apart… Think about that a minute or two and the question, “how the hell did this thing get bent” gets an answer. Well, that’s all history now and the cave man that screwed up this job won’t likely be working on your truck --- but he’s got a heap of kin folk and business associates that Learn’t eva thing a body needs to know bout karz and trukz down at the skuul of hard knockz where they motto is get a bigger haamer and swing it real hard…

Do the recall yourself....

I have done 1 recall myself (after the stealer screwed up the other). I ordered up the parts from Mopar4less and followed the directions on the recall notice for reimbursement. They paid me parts cost and shipping. This way I know what is happening to my truck. Stealer has touched my truck once, and never again!
