I have a 99 3500 with sagging insulation on the hood. In some spots it is about to pull through the keepers. I was wondering if this was to protect the paint or just to help keep the sound down and will hurt the paint on the hood to just remove it or any other suggestions ???

Won't hurt anything to remove it, these engines run pretty dam cool, thought the sound level might go up a bit, I did not notice that on my 3rd gen, when I removed the hood insulation. Mine was sagging because MICE had built a nest underneath!!

I have a 2002 that came with no under hood insulation, no grab handle on driver side pillar, no front axle disconnect, and no inner fenders at rear wheels. I think they just decided to run the last 2nd gen trucks with what ever parts were left. No insulation means it's just louder.

I didn't notice any higher sound levels inside the cab after removing the insulation. There are a couple places on line that make custom pieces if your hearing can tell a difference or if you just like the look.

I'm doing a cab off rebuild of my truck. I sand blasted the entire chassis yesterday and as I was blowing the media out of the boxed sections of the frame a very large ball of hood insulation came out of the right frame rail.....
I knew it had been chewed pretty bad but I didn't know the little buggers had just transferred it to a new location. Must have been quite a ride.
