I sold my 01. 5 2wd laramie today. It had been a GREAT truck! I did some light mods and had a DTT transmission in it. I bought it new just over 7 years ago when the 01. 5's came out.

I bought it new just before my Dad passed away. He was an Engineer and a part time motorhead.

I took my first trip to Lake Tahoe with it and our 28 ft trailer just after he died.

While pulling a grade on Highway 50, I started to cry. My wife looked at me and asked me what was the matter. I told her "I can't call my Dad and tell him how well my new truck pulls the hills. " Six years later... ..... I STILL MISS HIM!!!

I bought a new '07, 5. 9, G56, 4x4 in August. Both trucks have their good points. There was NOTHING better than putting the hammer down on the '01 and be doing 80mph by the bottom of the freeway on-ramp. Have to do some "Rowing" now with the 6spd. I miss the leather seats my old truck had also. They were very comfortable.

I LOVE the new truck because the engine rattle is almost nil. BUT... . I sure got a kick when I would come up to a signal in my '01. 5 and pull next to someone with their window down. You would see it roll up in a hurry!

I want to give my thanks to ALL of you SECOND GENER'S for ALL the good info, especially the guys that said "Wait for the Rear Disc Brakes".

I have skipped to the Third gens now and am starting somewhat over. I DID ask before I bought the '07 6spd and the guys said to buy a December production truck for the higher 6th gear. That's what I bought!

I didn't think that it would be hard to see the old truck go until I now heard a NEW driver start it up, goose it once, put it in gear and drive it away down the street. :{

I DID say "Good bye"

I had 95,000 miles on it. I got $17,500 for it.

We were going to keep it and my wife was going to use it but it wouldn't fit into the garage.

I didn't mean it to be a sad story... . I had planned to drive the truck until the wheels fell off. My Dad had given me his old '63 Porsche about 10 years before I bought the truck. I didn't drive it much and asked him if I could sell it to buy the '01.

I used to have to twist my Dads arm to go to the pulls, afterwords he would talk about how great they were for months, I think about him everytime I go to the pulls! Goodluck with the new truck Motorhead, if you need someone to call and tell how great the truck does the hills let me know

Thanks Tim.

My Dad was the GREAT RESCUER when I would screw stuff up in my early days of wrenching. He would take it to work and bring it back fixed or machined or welded back together. He worked at an aerospace place called Garrett-Airesearch. He worked on EARLY turbochargers designed by Garrett. He also had built some items that went to the moon in 1969. He did something to do with the life support backpacks that the astronauts wore while on the first moon walk.

His 1963 Porsche was his BABY. I was 13 when he bought it used in 1965. I was able to keep it tuned and later, I rebuilt the engine with at that time, big bore pistons and cylinders. polished ports and had Edelbrock balance the engine.

He showed me how to speed shift and with the old Porsche, how to throw it into a controled slide to make the corners faster.

I was taken by suprise when one Christmas he gave me an envelope with the PINK slip to the Porsche.

It needed to be restored when I sold it but it was a very solid car. It needed to be done "ALL THE WAY". I just didn't want a trailer Queen so I asked him if he minded if I sold it. He said "GO for it!"

My Dads philosphy was he would rather give me and my 3 brothers things while he was alive so he could see US enjoy it.
