This is my first diesel,is there anything i need to be careful of when i am washing the salt off my engine and anything under the hood??

the only precautions i would say are:

1. make sure the engine is not hot when washing. i prefer to start it up after washing and let it "blow" dry for about 10 minutes.

2. don't use anything over 500 psi if you use a pressure washer. even then, i stay about 12" away from everything.

3. don't blast directly into the alternator. it is not sealed and you could force water into the bearings if you hit it too hard. lost one about 15 years ago because of this.

4. be careful what type of detergent you use. some can dis-color aluminum and plastic. Fantastik is ok as well as Gunk. make sure there is no "sodium-hydroxide" in the cleaner.

thats about all i can think of right now.

good luck
