All you who are sampling on a regular basis-where do you take your samples? At work we sample our engines on a regular basis (all except the Ajaxes-pretty hard to grab a sample on the fly from an engine without a pressurized lube system
)-all are equipped with a special fitting that ties into the engine's lube oil system. There's a hose that's inserted into this fitting-when you push it in it opens a spring-loaded valve and lets you grab a sample. When the bottle's full pull the hose back out of the fitting, screw the dust cap back on and you're good until next time.
I have access to one of these fittings-but I need to know where to put it! I see a port on top of the oil filter housing-how about there? Nice and accessible-just not sure which side of the filter it accesses... would it really matter? Never got too worked up about taking samples with the dino oil-I just dropped it every 5000 km (about 3000 miles). But I just made the switch to synthetic-so I'd like to extend my drain intervals-and I can't see a reliable way to do so without sampling...
Thanks in advance
Jason
