Maybe it was and maybe it wasnt (but no bad weather - sunny & warm). Due to weather "predictions" low turn out. But, Cummins SW was there, Dr P, Mopar accessories & parts rep (on own time). Local business: Amsoil dealers, tire co dealer, spray-on bed liner, accessories & parts companies, body shop, dealer diesel mechs, etc. I didnt count the "Show & Shine" trucks (about 10-12); BUT - EarthRoamer was there and if you ever get a chance to see this "rig" - DO IT!!
The D/C factory rep that we usually see at these events (Mark) sent an e-mail and we now know a 4 dr in the 1500 for '02 and the 2500/3500 in '03 (no suicide doors). NO ALLISION transmission or MB eng. A "rumor" is possibly no QC when the 4 dr is out (and this is only a rumor).
NO D/C support for any of the TDR functions for this year. Dealers will be doing it "on their own" (if they do anything). So PLEASE, PLEASE support them or maybe all these events will be a thing of the past (if today is any indication of the support, whell... . )
The talks were good and the one thing I learned is that LT tires are "considered" to be "rated" at 95mph for 1 hour, BUT this depends on so many other factors that is why we dont see a "posted" rating for them like passenger tires. Tires for the LT series are being considered for the speed rating but with all the "variables" (loading, pressure, size - both rim and tire, etc) this may be awhile.
The Cummins people were knowledgable BUT with the eng being "officially" a D/C unit (warranty) they had to "hedge" on a few answers. If we want to pay, they will work on it but will use the D/C build list for the serial #. This means they will not replace a part with an "upgraded" unit w/o D/C having it listed or superceded (due to certifications). This was their answer to the '01 turbo question for those with the HY vice the HX. If the HY is no longer used by D/C and the part # for the HX is listed as the replacement for the eng serial #, then they can upgrade it, at your cost (unless you can get D/C to do it - then this would be between you and D/C). I hope this makes sense to those that have this type of question/problem. Call your local D/C or Cummins dealer with your eng serial # and have them check for the authorized replacement part. If the print-out they get from D/C lists the "better" part ... hmmmm...
Anyhows, lets try to get more of us to these meets (if you can) and show D/C that we DO CARE about the TDR and dealers that support us. Maybe when they see us supporting the vendors that show up and the dealers that do this, they'll change their mind. I would rather support the local vendors that show up then buy a D/C part, and give the dealer more maint work (w/o using D/C parts) just to help prove this point.
THANKS TO ALL THAT MADE IT and to the AUGE boys for putting it on!!!
My 0. 015$ and I am not in any way connected with this event (other then having FUN and getting the up-close look at the EARTHROAMER).
