Sandpiper & Other Toy Haulers ??

We have a 32' Carri-Lite 5th wheel and are thinking of trading for a 5th wheel toy hauler of some sort. Would love to get a Weekend Warrior or Komfort Karry-All but they are out of our price range. Does anybody have experience with the Forest River Products ( Sandpiper, Cardinal, Wildwood... etc. ) , also what about the Tahoe TranSport, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff the Weekend Warrior is a peice of junk. I got rid of my 2000 Warrior because it had so many issues. I got a Tahoe Transport and it is far superior in all aspects. I looked at all the toy haulers and for the money the Tahoe could not be beat.

Can these trailers haul a jeep or are they not rated for that much weight, above motorcycles or ATV's. I have a goose neck utility trailer that I have converted into a camper that will haul my jeep but it would be nice to have a complete camper with ALL of the extras.

I have a 26' SUT by Prowler that is now 3 years old. It is great for dry camping and easily holds 2 ATVs. Any trailer or 5th wheel is going to have some things you like and some things you don't. My biggest compaint is the lousy lighting inside--it always is dark and I had to install extra reading lights. I would buy another Prowler.

Most of the 5th wheel toy haulers have cap. around 3-4k. So a jeep would be right at fully loaded without any other gear, also if you have one of the wranglers or newer I think it would be too wide to fit inside the wheel wells on one like my buddy's Tahoe.

I have a '95 Sandpiper 27' TT (non toy carrying, unless you concider my son's pail and shovel). I've been pretty impressed with it for what it is. I think it's a bit nicer than average and tows very well. Don't tell anyone, but I pulled it with my 3/4 ton Blazer for a year before the CTD and it did really well. All in all a nice mid level rig. Heck, they're all cheezy untill you get an Airstream.

Jeff, look for a Keystone dealer in your area and ask him about their Tailgator line. I will admit that they are not the "best " trailers out there, but they are of good quality. They come standard with many extra features, and will not kill your bank account. I looked for a Forrest River, but they have very few dealers for their toy haulers, and theyare rather pricey. Don't get me wrong they appear to be very nice and well built. If money is no object, check out the Patio Hauler by Kitt Mfg. You can find all of these on the internet. Hope this helps in some small way.

I don't know, the more I read and look around, maybe I don't want a toy hauler. I thought it would be nice to be able to load the kids bikes and stuff like that into the back, but I think we would be much better off buying a used, higher quality rig (Avion, Alfa, Travel Supreme, King of the Road, Carriage... etc... ). It seems as though if you buy a new one, in three to four years it's worth half of what you paid for it. We have a 1990 32' Carri-Lite now, yes it is ten years old, but seems to be a very solid well made RV. I'd rather buy used quality, as opposed to a new mediocre quality rig. Well who knows I will be searching and investigating for the next 6 months or so, still listening and awaiting everyones comments.

Jeff, While I dont have a toy hauler, I do have a Forest River buily RV. I tow a Cedar Creek 5er 34 ft built by Forest River. I have found this Co to be a good one, and find there trailers to be well built. There are severeal brands of the toy trtailers out there Forest Rivber seems to be a good one. Good Luck Gunny,

I travel with a group of about 15 toyboxes. Forest River products are of good quality. Stay away from Carson and Thor. Most of the newer toyboxes will hold a Jeep. Just make sure you get the weight distribution right or you'll have tire probs.

Just bought a '00 Patio Hauler 351F - 36ft 5th wheel. It has a 'separate' 10ft garage in the back. Check out www.kitmfg.com I looked for ~1yr before purchasing the Patio Hauler - it appears to be the best built trailer meeting my needs. I paid $22K for it - the deals are out there you just have to look.



Do a search on 'Brian Meadows' and you will find my earlier posts regarding my quest for a trailer. You might check out www.dirtrider.net (M/C site) and search on 'toy box' - lots of good info there as well.



IMO - don't even consider putting a Jeep in an RV based trailer. That was my 'want' and I couldn't find ANY RV trailer that would handle a 4000lb vehicle with any margin on the payload. Weekend Warrior's website shows them putting a CJ-7 in one of their 3 axle 5th wheels but after looking at the WW products I wouldn't even consider it. If you really want to haul a 4k vehicle then you need to step up to the race car trailers that are designed as car haulers with living quarters - not a RV trailer with toy carrying cabability.

Febuary of this year I purchased a prowler 33. 5g which is a 5th wheel toy box. I am very happy with the unit. I can put up to 4 atv inside, has a built in 24 gallon fuel tank, generator, 100 gallons of water and tons of space inside. Infact i am very excited for hunting season and all the room for gear even put gun racks on the walls and a cataletic heater to cut down on battery draw durring Idahos called falls. Dry weight is 8,100 after atvs, gear and water around 12,000. I paid $25,000 including tax (5. 5%) and extras. The only thing i wish it was a little shorter for Idaho narrow logging roads. I have has to get out one time so far and build a ramp to get around a corner I hear Nash is comming out with a 5th wheel desert fox which should be very nice but probly pricy. I have a 99 sandpiper 5th. The fit and finish on this trailer is excellent. We are on our third season with it, and have had no issues.

I have a 2001 Sandpiper 25' Toy Box. I haul my 1400lb race car in it. It is a great rig and I am quite happy with it. But, if you want to put a Jeep in it, I think you're out of luck. I believe mine has higher capacity axle's and the payload weight is only 2500lbs. Maybe they have a higher rated axle, but I don't know.



Gotta agree with the earlier comment about going with a car hauler rig with living quarters, not an RV rig to haul the car.

The Patio Hauler has a 3K or 4K payload capacity with 2K on the patio itself - GVW - 10,100; GVWR - 14,000. The patio is only 10ft long in my trailer, 14ft long on the 39ft trailer. The nice thing about the Patio Haulers is that they are designed from the beginning to have a separate living quarters & garage. I figured I needed 15ft for the my jeep and most of the toy box trailers (no separation wall) will barely handle the length. The big problem is the weight.
