Varments digging holes..

Does anyone on here have any experience with Sansui speakers from the 70's and 80's? I am looking at using a set of vintage Sansui's to set up a stereo in my room and would appreciate any advice I can get. With the way I have my room set up a surround sound system would not be practical.

I found a good deal on a set of Sansui SP-X9's circa 1980. Each cabinet is rated at 300 watts and contains 7 speakers, a 16 inch woofer, 1 midrange, 2 horns and 3 tweeters. Does anyone know of a good stereo receiver that could drive these monsters effectively.

I don't have much experience setting up a stereo system from scratch so any input will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

After buying my new stuff last year, I found that most of the receivers are based around six or seven channel surround sound, not two/four channel like the older units. You can run the new units two channel but why spend the coin on a fancy unit that you will not use the features of?

Maybe look around for an older unit that some one is trying to get rid of because of an upgrade. Should be able to get a heck of a deal. I have at least three receivers just sitting around collecting dust because no one wants the older stuff any more, and a couple of them are really nice units.

I'd go with Carver for a main amp. They can push 300 watts or more. we're talking clean power here. another one that had big power was Marantz. I had one that was 200 watts / channel x 4 channels. It ran on a dedicated breaker and would cause the lights in the house to dim a little still.

I bet those Sansui speakers will sound sweet.
