Whats the best product for getting sap and tar off our trucks?I tried a clay bar and also some cheapo tar and bug remover and neither worked. Anything good out there?

I've tried a half dozen products and the only thing that has worked for me is waterless hand cleaner without any grit in it... and its still a lot of work... .

as a western carpenter (who also parked beneath pine trees) I always had good luck using baby oil or wd-40 to dilute the stuff and get it off me (my hands)and my truck. It leaves an oily residue that eventually cleans up with soap and water. The more agressive method is turpentine or a commercial bug and tar removal agent.

Take a rag and saturate it with plain old mineral spirits, paint thinner. Set it on the glob of sap for a minute or two and it will wipe right off. This also works for most adhesives on stickers and labels that seem to be plastered on everything nowadays. It is cheap, effective and won't harm paint on just about anything. Works on clothing also and cleans up with soap and water. Just be sure to wax after because it removes it.

We generally had good luck getting pitch off of the radial-arm saw blade with denatured alcohol. Alternatively, there is a citrus based solvent called Desolv-It Contractors Solvent that removes almost anything. It will even soften silicone RTV caulking.

Spit. Lot of enzyme in it. I use it on the glass when no cleaner works. Let it sit a minute to start its action. Don't let anybody see you do it, lest they think you've lost your mind.

A paint and body shop told me to use rubbing alcohol and it worked great. I was really surprised. I had bought some stuff from that they sold and ended up returning it bacause I didn't need it. That saved me about $15. :) Rubbing alcohol is cheap and it wont hurt the finish at all either.

Well, its really too expensive but I use
#2 Diesel:D

If that does not work, (some sap is harder than others,) I use denatured alcohol.

I have been using Xenit. It work VERY well, I have been using it for about a year. Gets tar of with one spray and a wipe.

Pro form PF600 is the best money can buy. For tar, sap or any thing. It is a paint solven design by a company that makes prof body shop product. You need to wax after you clean your paint. Spray on wipe off.

Steel bristle wheel chucked up in my Dewalt cordless drill is about the only thing I can find that works. This also is the only way I've found to remove fly spots off of our RV...

It is a little hard on the finish though.

I need to try some of these methods. I live in Texas and need to get rid of some lovebugs. Anyone tried any of these methods on the critters.
