Hi,

Which brand of satellite radio is the best? Any opinions welcome. Also which service, I believe there are two.

Jim

Well, I'll give you my $0. 0175...

I have the Sirius system, as it is what my Kenwood deck is compatible with. I'll tell you, I LOVE IT. Nothing better than knowing that the 5 stations you listen to all the time ALWAYS HAVE MUSIC ON. Yeah, there's quite a few music stations, but I'm not really the Latin type guy, nor jazz, nor the other ones. But, the ones I do listen to (rock, country, top 40) are all excellent stations.

My install ran me $208, that was with the receiver antenea and everything else. I believe the deal right now is still $75 instant rebate, but only if you have a dealer install it, which is where I bawked, but didn't have a choice... so I helped them install it... . :)

I've made two 1000 mile trips with the system in my pickup, and have had scratchy service twice... . both times in the same place in the middle of Nevada where you're in against two huge mountains. Other than that, it's been perfect.

Like I said, mine is controlled through my Kenwood deck (KDC-X917), and I believe almost all new decks are compatible with some form of satellite radio. My service runs me $12. 95/month, with a buy 11 get 1 free deal.

So, any other questions? Also, the receiver is under my pax seat, and will be able to accept a cd changer when I get one (which I'm not sure I'm going to now w/ the Sirius radio).

later, Josh.

I have the Sirius system as well. None of my radio/speaker components are stock. My Sirius tuner is a Kenwood. It is a very slick system. I really like the no commercials. They do have DJ's which pop up every now and then with industry tidbits associated with the station you are listening to. They are not on for more than 30 seconds. I have had no reception problems unless sitting under an overpass. I travel all over the state... about 60-70K a year with a lot of South Texas travel. The station choices are very limited down there... with the majority being Hispanic. Sirius makes that go away nicely. The price is the same as posted above. I believe XM is 9. 95 a month. I do not believe it offers quite the variety of stations or news channels. It would still be way better than normal radio. It is probably the best service I pay for right now... way worth the money in my opinion... CJ

I have the XM Delphi system, you can install it your self. Also you can get a home kit to listen to XM at home. THey also now have a boom box. The display is great, large screen and large buttons with a remote. The programing is alot like Sirrus but there are some commerical stations but not many commercials.

XM

Bought XM October '01 right after they turned it on, by Christmas of last year added it to Mom's Ram. Got a second unit with 3 months free service and no set up fee doing it over the web site. For ten bucks a month, I wouldn't be without it. Some of the larger cities have repeaters so you don't loose signal in the city.

Never looked a Sirius, so can't say good or bad, and other than country don't do much music. Do like weather channel, Fox News and CNN. Open road channel is good for mix of road reports music, and news and weather.

Some of the comedy stations are good but a couple are just plain raunchy, and most of the comics are limited to a two word vocabulary, and all of them with the same two word vocabulary, and it just ceases to be funny after very few minutes.

Whatever you end up with, XM or Sirius, I think you will get to wishing you had it in every thing you travel in.

We first got it because of traveling in the south on Sunday so often, we didn't get any radio but local church services, and one or two each Sunday is all the preaching I can handle.

I don't drink any more, quit smokin' last year, Mom won't let me chase wild wimmen', so I figure I can bypass on more than two preachins on a Sunday!

Just funnin' Mom!
