You're right about getting rid of Michael Savage... . He's far far to liberal for me! They need to get someone more conservative in there.

:-laf LOL

Micheal's voice drives me up a wall. Plus he is wall to wall complaining, imho.

Bill Bennett, Glen Beck, Rush, Laura Ingraham, sometimes Micheal Reagan (until he starts interrupting), Janet Parshall, and Micheal Medved are more my cup o' tea. :)

I have had XM for about a year and a half. I also have the Delphi unit. My Alpine head unit is XM "ready" but what I like about the Delphi is that we can listen in the truck, get to where we are going, pop out the receiver and put it in the boombox, toy hauler or play it in the house and only pay for 1 subscription per month.

The only thing I would compare between XM and Sirius is the "other" stations you get that are unique to each company ie. I have heard that Sirius will have all the NFL games starting this year. I would like to hear my team on Sunday afternoons coming back from the dunes. And I think XM is the only one with the Nascar channel. Just look at each company's line up and see which one has more stuff you want to hear. In the big picture, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

I have Sirius. I chose it because the satellites are in a better orbit, and I believe XM has 1 vs. Sirius's 3.

To run XM, you have to have a clear view of the southern sky, whereas with Sirius you just need to not be in a tunnel. The programming is good, I like it.

I did some offroading the other day in some deep canyons and it NEVER cut out.

I live in a mountainous area, so Sirius is the only way to go... unless you like to hear static.

And yes, the FM modulators are convenient, because you can pull them out and take them around, but they degrade the sound quality. The only way to go is to get a CD player with a tuner built in, like the Kenwoods.

Roady 2

Went to get a XM Roady 2 for one of our other vehicles today and three different places were all sold out. Each place said they are on nationwide backorder. I guess I should've bought it when I saw it about two weeks ago.

Peter,

Did you have to remove the headliner? How did you attach the antenna? I have the Dodge kit, and it requires that a 3/4" hole be drilled. I prefer to use the center clearance light like you did.

Was there antenna cable already above the headliner? You can get this as a factory option, and Dodge will usually have the wiring inplace for options since it is cheaper to install all vehicles with the connector in place than to wire individual trucks.

Thanks for the help!

Another happy Sirius owner

I got the sirius JVC plug-and-play unit so that I could listen to the radio at home and in the truck - the only problem is that I never take it out of the truck! I'm considering getting an in-dash unit to replace the OEM unit - a much better option then going with a plug-and-play unit. Like others have said, the FM modulators are not very good, and you will lose a bit of sound quality. An added bonus of the sirius is that you can get streaming audio on-line for free (music stations only) so I can listen to the radio while at work!

As for installation, I went through the 3rd brake light and then through the head liner (you don't have to remove it to fish the wire through) etc... Pretty easy install.

Sirius has the NFL games! I remember that NFL games are what transformed ESPN and FOX onto REAL TV networks. I would not be surprised if the same thing happens to Sirius.

has anyone tried satellite radio?

I went with Sirius. I wanted a clean install at first with everything in the dash unit and also wanted to see artist, song title, station etc. on the screen but that meant getting an RB1.

I popped back and forth between XM and Sirius user sites for several months before making up my mind. Originally it was due to no commercials on Sirius but I think XM now went commercial free.

The other day I drove a D-max on the same route I take to work and with its factory installed XM I noticed more drop outs then my Sirius. Normally drop outs are not a problem for most but for me I live in a heavily wooded area and travel up to 4000 feet to get to work so I am happy with my choice based on that alone.

Satellite is all I listen to now, for me CD’s are a waste of time and FM is like AM when you compare to satellite.

In the end I opted for a PnP (plug n play) unit because of its versatility. I have a cradle in the truck, one at work, one in the boat, one in the travel trailer and one in the house so I have just one subscription and move the head unit with me. In the truck it looks like this:

#ad

I hard wired it direct to my factory radio so there is no chance of interference. The only knob on my factory unit I use now is the volume control.

I bought it here

Yeah but xm has playboy. lol Oo.

Sirius In

Thanks for the tips. Went with Sirius P-n-P type reciever for the truck and home, everyone loves it. Ran antenna wire thru cab brake light, along edge of headliner, then under A pillar gauge pod to under dash. Very clean and quick, no exposed wiring, no need to remove headliner. Good signal strength at home [heavily wooded] and excellent signal on the road! One problem; I can't keep the wife and kids from constantly searching around on it  A pleasant surprise; the 2 comedy channels are actually pretty good :D . Looking forward to NFL regular season, Jim G

Be carefull with that third brake light. A couple of weeks ago we had a lot of heavy rain and I was getting a lot of water in the cab threw the light. I did not run the wire threw there the seal gave up the goast. A little silacone around the edge fixed it but now I have to do something with the cab caus all the water that got in.

Installed XM about a year ago and love it. I do like it a lot better since they went completly commercial free. i installed the Terk Commander because of its low profile design and large display area. I like it not being the first thing you see when you get in the truck. The first thing I like to see is the NV5600 stick, whose sitting next to me, then the XM. :-laf The XM makes that long 9 hour  drive to Show Low, AZ a lot shorter. :D Love to listen to Kilroy on Hank's Place.

I had sirius in my VW and I am installing it in my 2004. 5. I have the 6 disc in dash CD player and I am using the Kenwood Sirius reciever from my VW. I need an adapter to plug into the radio and crutchfield had it for $15. I installed the reciever and antenna today and just need to run the wire when the adapter comes in. I put the anenna in the back by the CHMSL and ran the wire around the CHMSL so it entered the bottom of the seal so no water could get in. I ran it down the C piller then under the molding and carpet to under the drivers seat where the reciever is. Was very easy.
