Does he have a clue??

never mind just checking signature

Have a friend who is considering buying a new 2003 Saturn Vue AWD suv. Anyone out there had any experience good or bad about these vehicles? Let me know cause I dont have a clue about their reliability or custumer satisfaction ect.

Thanks in advance David Gardner.

There have been a few saturns in the family, but not the model you are asking about. Service has been good to great, no complaints that I know of. Reliability has also been good. DC could learn a lot from saturn.

you would NEVER catch me in a saturn. Side curtain air bags or not, the things shatter when they are in an accident. February of this year we (fire company) had an accident on a 55mph two lane state road, accident involving fire. The saturn had minimal damage to the front end, however it was fully involved when we got on location, and one poor sucker coming home from work had a VERY bad night. Burned beyond recongniton. For two weeks after the accident, they went back and forth over whether it was a man or a woman...

That saturn had to be scraped off the road by a PennDOT wheel loader, the individual plastic body panels caught on fire and burned themselves into the road...

We've had two Saturn cars, a SL1 and now a SC1 (4dr and 2dr) Both have been very good cars. Last year the SC1 had a total cost of $700 for gas, oil, filters, tires, no mechanical issues and roughly 30k miles. It has 120k on it and it's never had major problems. We drive the crap out of it too, it's not a powerhouse by any stretch, but what can a guy expect for 40-45 mpg? My folks just bought a used L series 4-door with the V6. It has lots of power and will set you back in the seat when you step on the go pedal, but still gets 35 mpg.

The local brand inspector drives Saturns as well. His last one he had 340k miles on and it still ran good. Normal wear and tear parts had been replaced, but the engine and transmission hadn't been dug into yet. He was going to drive it as far as he could just to see how long it would take, but he was T-boned in town and totalled the car. (He walked away from the accident. )

As far as plastic panels go, they don't bother me one bit. Stop by a dealer some time, they usually have one there with the body panels off. The structure under them is superior to what you'll find under a sheet metal car. Granted any car of that size is no match in an accident against a bigger truck.

I will buy another Saturn when this one's wore out. The sales people don't work on commission, there's no haggling on the price and no pressure either. The service departments are fair and don't screw up the car. They even wash and vacuum it every time it comes in.

As far as the VUE goes, I don't know much about them, but the neighbor has one and they like it so far.

I just want to say, I've driven over a million miles in my life. I've owned a lot of cars and trucks. My '93 Saturn SL2 Auto is the best car by far of anything I've owned. This car has 240k miles on it and the only thing I've done is regular maintenance. Not one single breakdown. As far as safety, yes it has polymer plastic side panels, but it has a very strong inner space frame. In my opinion, it is a very safe car. That's why I bought it. :)
