Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting reloading? is it worth it?

Has anyone got any experiences with the newer Savage Rifles? Previously I haven't heard anything good about them. Now I hear they are gun of the year. I watched the video on their website, and it looks like they have done some really smart things with them. I am starting to shop for a new rifle and they caught my eye.

Savage

I have shot older ones (have an old 99 in 300 Savage) And they have all been very accurate. The main complaint were that the barrels wore out faster - 10,000rnds instead of 20,000rnds. The new ones I have shot are incredibly accurate! Spend the extra $100 for the accutrigger and the bedding system. The trigger allows a light pull and is very smooth. They really shoot nice. oh yeah, the barrels last longer to.

I haven't shot any of the large caliber Savages, but I do have one of the model 97's in . 17HMR. It is a tack driver with the Accutrigger. I would have no qualms about getting a hunting or target rifle from Savage.

I had never thought highly of them, but the new advancements they have made with the accu-trigger and accu-stock are kind of awesome! I just wanted to get some first hand feed back before laying out the cash for one. I was kind of sold though after watching the video. Savage Arms > Accuracy

Thanks for the feedback!

They have been the only new rifles (Bolt) that I have bought in years. More acurate than most can people can shoot. With the new triggers and bedding you can't bet them. I put in both of my older guns using the aftermarket and I have no complaints, sent one rifle back to check the alignment of the mounting holes and they were right the bases were off. Just to add to my opinion Retired SF Operator /Small Arms Instructor / Navy Shooting Team

I am shooting a mod 12 in 223rem accu trigger for F class 300yards X ring is about 1 3/8 inch this gun shoot and even beats some of the other guys with custom guns costing thousands. best so far is 147 7x out of 150 15x.

I have a savage in 308 with the heavy barrel and a B&C tac/varmint stock.

Frigging thing shoots like a $2000 + gun for about $900 including scope, harris bipod mount and a HEAVY case.

IF you want to see what a Savage can do find a copy of GUNS Aug 2010 page 58 Brakes 1000 yard record also won the 600 yard with stock model 12 in 308 . I have been shooting Savage from 1999 223 223T 243 25. 06 30. 06 . Last year I got a Model 12 . BOY that is some trigger. But it does not shoot any better than the old ones. That all will keep a 4 shot that looks like 2. at 100 yards But I did adj the triggers on the old ones. On the 223T I did put a Timney Trigger in it. My buddy shoots at 300 yards and can hold 4 shots at 1/2 in. :)

I've owned just about every bolt gun and action available, including Savage, Howa, Weatherby, Remington, Winchester, Mauser, Kelbly-Stolle, BAT, Surgeon, Nesika Bay, Both McMillan's..... I could go on for a while here. My point is I shoot a lot, and I'm good enough to be qualified by the NRA as a High Power Rifle Long Range Prone High Master. It's not as complicated as it sounds, but you do have to be able to shoot well to reach that classification. I've shot Savage rifles, and like them. They are not the top end of quality, but are very well made, and I even have several of them I like. I have a Long Range Precision Hunter in . 223 Rem, with a 1:7 twist factory barrel that I have actually won several Mid Range Prone matches with. It shoots better than any other out of the box rifle on the market. They also make an F-Class rifle chambered in . 308 and 6. 5x284. While I don't think you'll be going to Camp Perry with them, they are excellent entry level rifles, and for the money, may very well be the best you can buy. Personally, I don't like their trigger systems, which are stamped steel and prone to failure and excessive wear. But how many people shoot 5-8,000 rounds a year? I think if you find one you like and you can hit your target with, then you should be happy with it, and stick to it. As an afterthought, dealing with Savage's customer service department is as pleasurable as it can be. They are nice, knowledgeable, and happy to help. Oh, and they can speak English. Happy shooting.

God bless you and yours.

Savage rifles are one heck of a lot of bang for the buck - possibly the best deal out there in terms of value for dollar. They are well designed, simply constructed, assembled with care, and are exceedingly accurate "out of the box" for a sporting rifle of any price. They are highly regarded nowadays, and deservedly so.
