BrakeSmart problem?

Heres another kicker for ya:

In New Hampshire, the tolls consider all trucks with a flatbed to be charged a truck rate, even a 1/2 ton!

I learned that when I went to my buddies place out of state, I paid $1. 00 leaving with a dually pickup bed, then I paid $1. 50 every time through after that with the new flatbed on it.

Go figure.

I've always complained about CA vehicle laws and codes as being crazy. Now I'm finding out that compared to a lot of other places they ain't so bad afterall.

On the hundred air mile deal. I have to keep and exempt log book. Basically a daily time sheet. I got bagged when I first got started for not having one. They were going to make me sit for 10 hours, but allowed a friend to come drive me out...

10K+ GVW

So, is this actual weight, or the RATING? My 91 dually has a GVWR of 10100; does that mean I need to keep a log if I deliver a horse to a friend's house in NE? Come on, this is ri-goddanged-diculous. At this rate, if "safety" is the true concern, make EVERYONE keep a log, from a Yugo to a Peterbilt. I still see DOT, hwy patrol, et al, as revenue collectors, NOT safety oficers. If you have a clearance light out on the side of the trailer or pickup, it is not a gross safety violation. The pigs in their grey patrol cars that dont turn on their headlights in the middle of a downpour are a MUCH GREATER safety hazard than I am with a burned out clearance light.

Maybe it's a good thing stuff didnt work out for me after all in Loveland CO; I wouldnt have made enough $$$ to keep up with all the DOT/ HP/ HoS B. S.

Your doing your friend a favor correct? You don't have "Horse Hauling, 800. xxx. xxxx. embalzoned on your rig corrct? Then don't worry about a log.

By the way, I do know people that haul horses for others on occasion. They play it "cool" and have no problems.

Got lucky I guess...

Well I ran I-80W with a pretty fair load, CAT scaled at GCVW 22,100. Ran everyday during the 72 hour inspection period Plus. Wore my Badges, Transporter Plate on the 5er, running one half mile an hour UNDER the posted limit for trucks. Crossed all open scales, stopped and showed Legals at the ports. Got a Green light at any scale I crossed, one weighmaster told me they were too busy and didn't even want to see my legals. I heard on the CB the scales were open as I came to several, when I got there some Coops were closed down. Bout the only time running I-80 I haven't had some kind of a problem with DOT. Like I said, Just Lucky I Guess. Cept my transmission blew on the downhill to Laramie, WY. Just can't run I-80W without having some kind of a problem.

I think CA's law about trailers having to stay in the right lanes and go only 55 is a bigger hazard than if they were allowed to run the speed liimit with 4 wheelers. You have someone in a 1/2T gasser pulling a load that slows everyone down to 45mph up a hill, and no one can pass him. It backs traffic up for miles. If you could pass in your RV, stock trailer, semi, what have you, then traffic would flow a little smoother.

My father refuses to stop in IL for that very reason (speed difference). He fills up in StL, and makes it to his destination adn back to StL on a fill up, even though fuel is frequently cheaper in IL than MO.

At least around this part of the state, they don't really enforce the 55MPH limit on the big rigs. You can set the cruise at 60-64MPH (as I do and have never been pulled over). As long as your not being a hazzard weaving in and out of traffic like an idiot, or other-wise being reckless, they don't pull you over. In IL, I was told the cops are only supposed to give you a warning, up 64MPH in a 55 zone. After that, a ticket. If that is true, it could be why they don't generally bother. I know a few guys that run around 70+ and they have been pulled over for it on more than one occasion. Most trucks I see running through IL, don't run 55. Mostly in the 60-70 range. UPS is one of the exceptions. I have passed a few that were only doing about 52 on the flat.

The federal DOT CDL book says that you have to use a log for ANY vehicle used for the furtherance of a business. Thats why they are now nailing the guys hauling there cars to the track on the weekends, bacause if they win money, its condidered a business and therefore subject to DOT rules.

Obviously it would be over 10KGCVW, but they useally won't bother with anything under 10kGCVW.

ANY vehicle used for the furtherance of a business. What a crock. Depending on how that is enforced that could include everyone. It is nothing more that a cash cow for dot. Our freedoms are disappearing so fast. Socialist society here we come.
