A new friend of mine has a Ram '99 dually auto w/ 61K miles he had just installed a high perf computer on. He didn't have any gauges, so I proceded to tell him he needs EGT, boost, transmission temp and FP gauges ASAP. I warned him about lift pump failures, especially after BOMBing. I have a mechanical FP gauge, but didn't have the fitting to tap test port. Anyway, I convinced him and ordered the guages.
The gauges arrived and I installed them in two evenings: Everything worked great. The next day, my friend told me the FP guages was intermittent. I checked everything twice and it checked good. I even swapped everything out with my truck and everything worked. Then it hit me: The lift pump failed. With the truck running I loosened the second fuel test port and no fuel came out. Although the pump was running, it wasn't pumping.
We called Cummmins and overnighted a pump and connector in. Installed it and everything is good. Another injection pump saved.
