What a good idea. My little run around is a 50mpg VW TDI,Its the cost of energy thats threatning our economy. If enough people cut back just a little, we might reduce demand. I'm saving $100. 00 a month driving my TDI

I drive a 91 Acura Integra,loaded(35MPG city over 43MPG highway---140,000miles). It was the wifes new car she bough before we met,i got the hand me down, but really enjoy it for run-abouts. Thats the reason my 01 Dodge only has 25000 miles on it. I use the Cummins for when i need to haul stuff/work. With the price of fuel it costs me about $35 every two weeks for the car. DW:-laf

That is really good mileage. What motor does in have? I am getting around 27-28 in mixed driving. I am going to clean or replace the OXygen Sensor, they says that will maybe improve it a bit. The Prelude is a 2. 1 DOHC FI engine. Burns some oil because of the FRM cylinder walls that eat rings.

If I tear into it, they same to just put new rings in! I will put new syncho's in the transmission and a new clutch at that time also. Sure is fun to drive. This drove it home from getting the windows tinted.

 what demand? I've yet to pull up to a pump that says 10 gal max. purchase! In the 70's there was an ACTUAL shortage, these days its just robbery. Most everyone is driving less and in more efficiant vehicles than ever before and there are more refineries AND now alternatives like BIO are more avail and common but STILL the end cost goes up?

Well, of course the refinerys are gouging us. They increase their profit margins every day. Unfortunately there is no law against that. Although for something as important to our way of life, I think that time is long past. You always hear it is market competition, and that is healthy. There is no market. And anyone that believes that there still is, is either brain dead stupid, quite naive, or just plain lying (to themselves as well as others).

There is no real reason that oil should be $100/bl, when just a few years ago it was $30. I think that that is mostly the result of speculators on wall street. (you might say it is competition from China and India. But then, as you say, where are the shortages, anywhere ?)

Is there anyone in this country that is unaware that we are in fact at war with Saudi Arabia and the rest of opec ? Now that the real effects of the cost of oil are really making their way into the grocery store and elsewhere, does anybody really believe that it is not inflationary ?

And why are we paying $100/bl for oil from Alaska and Texas, and the Gulf Coast etc ? (I know you guys in Alaska dont like to hear that)

Thanks for letting me rant.

It has the 1. 8L in it----i think its rated for 140HP,and the mileage i stated earlier it is in miles(hand calculated). In the colder months(-20) it will drop to about 30-32MPG and it really drops when i open it up on the highway going to our place at the lake. It is not uncommon for the traffic to be cruising at 80-90MPH all the way up there(4000/4500RPM)----i just tuck in behind a few speeder and use them as "pace cars". I had several offers to buy this model of Acura as it was rated the best used vehicle to buy for reliability in the 90"s(from some motor magazine---can"t remember who),also met a guy last year who was really into "rally car racing" and wanted the motor. He said that the car was worthless, but all his rally buddies ran this engine--- loves to rev/scream,just maintain it/change the oil and it will last 300,000 miles. Hope it does last that long, cause its not in the budget to replace it for about 3-4 more years, than i 'll but another "HONDA". No flame/war intend, just my experience with this car---seems Honda are reliable.

It does have four valves per cylinder and one more cam than my 5. 9 Cummins. The real funning thing is that I think I am the second oldest guy at 63 on preludepower.com. Most were not born when I bought a new 1985 Prelude.
