If we took off after them, we would have to taxi through a nice puddle of JP-7. Fortunately, it's not too flammable.

In 1966 I worked three months at Lockheed on the SR-71 and didn't know it!!!... until the last day of work. I was a 'tool crib attendant' with strap-on steel toes and a walk-along battery powered fork lift. I distributed male/female molds for forming the outer skin of the plane (500-3500 pounds per pair). Back and forth all shift long, not even knowing what I was doing. I had lied to get the job by not telling them I was only a summer worker and a college student. So, in September, I said I was quitting and they took me to an office to de-brief me. I listened to all the top-secret talk and was dismissed. When I left, I walked through the main assembly plant for the first time and I swore the plane was from outer space. What a trip.

Sorry for the long post, but the plane is truly amazing. Ironically, all those molds (hundreds of them, were purposely destroyed by order of congress so the plane can never be produced again #ad
Go figure. Joe
