How cold does it have to be? to do this.

I wonder if this guy is cussing himself out yet. 12 mpg or less just isn't my cup of tea. First one I have seen of this version, I was stunned.

The Hemi is fine in a 1500, but owning one, I can say I wouldn't want it in anything heavier. The transmission behind it is nice, though. We'll see how long it holds up.

There's one on the local lot here I wouldn't mind having. They had a black one, a white one and the silver one is still there. It's an SLT with auto and 4. 10 ratio. It's rated to tow 10,600 and after driving my friend's 2500 QC Hemi, I have no doubt it would do it. My friend get's 14mpg around town and 17mpg at 70mph. I've seen it myself and have no reason to lie about it. I get 17mpg in town and 19mpg at 70mph. My friend doesn't tow a big 5th wheel like we do but a couple of months ago we came up next to a 2500 Hemi (11,300 tow rating) towing a 31-32' Carriage Cameo. They weigh just a tad more than our Jayco. When the light turned green, he eased away at about the same rate of acceleration we did. Neither of us was pushing it. I could tell he wasn't either by the sound of his motor and shift points. He had Michigan tags so he must have made it over the Smoky's ok. As much as I like my Cummins, and as quiet as it is over the last three I've owned, after driving my friend's Hemi for a day, I can see how some folk would prefer the smooth vibration free ride of the Hemi. We get 12mpg around town with our Durango and I wouldn't trade it for anything else in it's class. Because I have a Cummins in my truck doesn't mean anything else is worthless or someone else is stupid for buying what I wouldn't. The Hemi is strong as an ox for 345cid and a good engine for those who don't want diesel. If the Cummins didn't exist, I'd take a Hemi over the PSD in a flash. :D

I bought mine because I don't need a Cummins for a daily driver back and forth to work. I also can't get a short bed regular cab with a Cummins, and that's, (SB/RC), what I wanted. That was my upgrade from a Mustang GT. I get between 15 and 17 driving back and forth to work, 50 miles each way, on the Capitol beltway. And even though I love the sound of the Cummins, I still like the way a V-8 sounds with duals on it. And it handles and brakes a LOT better than my 96.

I see a lot of 1500 SWB regular cabs trucks around Tucson. Hardly ever saw them in Denver.

I can see having a gasser if it's an in-town work truck, doesn't tow very much, and especially if it's used by a work crew. For heaving towing on the highway, Cummins is the way to go.
