Well all,
My insurance Company did total the truck. They are giving me 10+K for it. I will be going shopping for a new tow-rig today. I have 7 more days of rental car and about 5 weeks time before I need to head back north so do have some leeway in finding good tow rig. This might be a bit of a blessing in disguise as my much loved 95 was probably legally over loaded with my current 5th wheel. It is still sad to see it go. I will be going to the impound lot and removing hitch and SmartTire tire monitoring system. :{

Bob

Bob,

You're probably right about the blessing in disguise. It's just a pity that your pamperd baby and long time member of the family has to go out as a donor vehicle. Somebody will get some quality parts for sure. The best of luck in locating a replacement.
Oh yeah... and don't forget your TDR grille badge. ;) You'll need it for the replacement! :D

The insurance company for the perpetrator of this accident has not yet accepted responsibility for the costs. I do not know if this is because the accident report still has not been finalized by the Texas State Patrol (estimated to be this Friday) or because these people did not really have insurance. #@$%!

I'll bet the drunk driver didn't have insurance and was probably driving with a suspended driver's license. It really ticks me off that we have to pay for uninsured driver insurance because of those who don't bother to buy liability insurance, and to add salt to the wound, they don't get prosecuted when caught.

That truck will be purchased and fixed. It will end up on copart.com within a couple of weeks of the release of the title. Wrecked, rust free 12-valves in much worse shape that that truck go in the ~$4000+/- range salvage price. I expect the one here will go in the ~$5000-$6000 range before the process is over. Real cost for the body shop to fix that truck, not counting part markup and labor will be in the $2500 range. Expect that truck to be for sale, with a rebuilt title, by late May/early June for $11,000-$12000 or more.

I can tell you right now of at least 1 body shop here locally that will bidding on that truck when it comes up.

You know, I'm usually a fairly forgiving person, but I am of the opinion that people like this should be forced to work off every bit of that debt to the insurance company and the owner, including any medical bills, before they are released from the criminal justice system.

Sorry to hear that, Bob. I wonder if they totalled the truck due to frame issues, or..... ??

I know around here if the damage totals less than 80% of the vehicles value, you can request to have the repairs done. If the estimate of repairs was $6700 and they are writing you a check for $10k, thats not even 70%. I realize they valued your truck much lower, but knowing they are going to have to cut a check for over 30% more than the cost of repairs, I just wonder why they went this route.....

Have you given any thoughts as to which generation truck your going to step into? Are you looking for newer technology and more comfort or would you rather stick with the simplicity and reliability of the 12 or even early 24 valve? Good luck in your shopping, and try to look on the bright side, shopping for a new truck is going to be exciting :)

I am going to look for a 2010 or 11 if possible. I do not want to go through all the up grades that I put on my 95. It appears that a lot of what I need comes standard on the 2010 and new Cummins pickups and they have a higher combined weight towing capacity. (currently towing a 2013 34. 5ft COLUMBUS 10295lbs dry). Of course the thrill of tweaking could still get the better of me. :-laf However since I have been retired for several years, I do not have the resources for such activities as I did while working full time.

I will be removing my 5th wheel hitch. the control and display units for the SmartTire monitoring system as this also monitors my trailer tires. I would like to remove the Firestone air bags from the back suspension that have only been on the truck for 6 weeks but this would be to much work in an impound lot.

I dont blame you, the new ones are like riding in a caddy compared to the older rigs :-laf Performance wise my 98 does what I need I dont currently have a need to be hitched to 20k, but as my little ones are growing the back seat of my 2nd gen is quickly shrinking (sigh). So a crew cab will be in the works in the near future. But there will always be a parking spot in my driveway for the ol girl :). Good luck and post up some pics of the new family member!

Well Hi all,

I said my final good bye to my trusted 95 today. Got my trailer hitch tire monitor out of it. Had to drive 100 miles each way to get it. I am also introducing my new family member: 2010 Dodge 3500 4 x 4 Diesel. . Pics attached ( I hope)
