FASS - Owners - Problem Fix Update Noise

i love the idea of VGT, but i won't be in the early list of users. it's great that there are enough R&D members here to trial these things, i'm just not at a place where i can 'try' a $2000 mod to see if it works.

i still think an adjustable injector with an adjustable timing AND fueling box would be the pinnacle, but who can make an injector that runs 7 holes normally and opens a couple extra when the fuel is needed... is that even a possibility?

I think I smell smoking CLUTCH in your solution.

I'm saving my lunch money for SB ConOFE first. Maybe by then I'll have sorted out my ideal power upgrade solution. My current thought is F1 Mach 2 + MAD ECM. I can always add a major fueling box when the buzz and the warrenty wear off.

VG turbo sounds interesting, Ford's got 'em. Seems like a much simpler way to go compared to twins, don't want to blow any head gaskets either. :)

Boondocker, yes, the clutch factors in there somewhere. I don't really consider it much because it's a foregone conclusion in my mind's eye. I've been happy with how my stocker is holding, but I'm not pretending that Dodge spec'd an OEM clutch for 1000+ lb-ft.

For my HP needs, a Con FE will suffice. I'm never going to need a DD clutch, because it would require mods that I'm not willing to make to exceed the FE's capacity (i. e. hot rod pump, twins, o-ringed heads, etc).

Yes, VGT is going to have to prove its mettle before a lot of us would give it a chance. On a race truck, it's not much of an issue if you grenade a charger. But those of us who need bulletproof reliability for our daily drivers want to see a track record of reliability on the VGT's part before we take the plunge.

The significantly higher cost further raises the bar that the charger has to meet.

B2B- an adjustable injector?? Intriguing, but I doubt it's worth even considering. A well-engineered injector has a pretty broad range of conditions where it will function well, so adjustability means a LOT of money spent of a tiny benefit (if any). You'll never see it.

As for possibility-- ANYTHING is possible.

I installed my standard timing catcher yesterday, and let me tell you, YOU DON'T NEED A VGT TURBO! It goes to redline so fast I can't shift the truck fast enough, NO TURBO LAG! I don't see myself using the FMS unless I am on the highway, it just goes though the gears so fast and fuels SO hard! To tell you the truth, I'm scared to use the FMS with the catcher.

Big P,

Hows the smoke? I'm one those non-smoker types and I have emissions tests to pass. I love the Great Smoke Stories as much as the next guy and have met more than a few pests who need fumigation, but overall I want a clean machine.

I don't know what you are running for injectors, but with my Mach 3's and my fueling box off, it will smoke HARD if you want it to. It is possible to drive calmly with little to no smoke. Instant night with the FMS on though. :-laf

Big P,

I'm only running EZ + RV 275s, stock HX35 with plenty of intake and exhaust. (Left my sig somewhere near the top of the thread. )

Without the FMS, does the smoke clear when your big turbo spools up? Turbo is on the back-of-my-mind list, likely some hybrid so I can keep my Jacobs exhaust brake. I tow occasionally at 17-18K, so EGTs are a concern too.

I don't have to decide until I do a lot more saving, but I'm torn between the benefits of ajustability (FMS + medium injectors) vs. the simplicity of full-time balls-outs setup (ECM + big injectors). There will probably be other options by the time I'm ready. :)

I've only had the catcher on for 1 day with dry weather. But during that day it seems that it will make very little smoke if it roll into it. If I just stomp on it, it seems like just as it is starting to clear up, I'm shifting. This set-up WILL smoke! I know it's more money, but I do like the added adjustability of my set-up.

Thanks Bob! ;)

Bob, I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket. I'll put it in YOUR pocket in exchange for some Mach 4s:)
