Has anyone had any luck with the ScanGauge II with a 2016 or 2017 CTD? My son has a CTS2 for his ‘17 Ram CTD and it works perfectly. I purchased the ScanGauge II and the codes they have on their website for X-Gauge are yielding absolutely no results. Am curious if anyone has used one successfully for their 2016 or 2017 as that what I’m trying to use this on or if I should bag it and get a CTS2.

This system is supposed to be nearly plug and play like the cts.

When you say you purchased the codes, what exactly are you talking about? Do they require you to purchase and install an activation code or what?

Scangauge lists coverage up to 2017. Did you get the correct kit for your year model?

No, I purchased the ScanGauge and then obtained the list of X-Gauge codes from the website for the 2013-2017 Ram CTD. The unit is only plug and play for the same gauges as you have already in the 2017 Ram and you have to input the individual codes if you want it to read items such as temps for EGT1, EGT2, EGT3, EGR temp, boost, and many of the items that come already programmed on the CTS2.

I inputted the codes for the above items and get a reading of 32 for all EGTs and 238 maximum for the EGR temp. Boost and most other codes they have listed don’t work at all on my 2017. The ScanGauge II is truly a step down IMO from the CTS2.

Yes, Version 4.22 as required by the X-Gauge instructions at https://www.scangauge.com/support/x...2013 - 2017 Dodge Ram with 6.7 Cummins Diesel.

I'm going to contact them tomorrow to either resolve the issue or return for a refund. I had a ScanGauge II as well as a CTS2 for my Ecodiesel. The ScanGauage was purchased directly from Linear Logic (manufacturers in Arizona) who loaded it with all the X-Gauges for the Ecodiesel and it worked well. I sold it all when I dumped the Ecodiesel a couple of years ago. I called when I was purchasing it for my CTD, and was informed they don't program the X-Gauages for the CTD like they do for the Ecodiesel. Perhaps that should have been my first hint that the ScanGuage may work quite well for the Ecodiesel but not for the CTD.

My guess is a programming error of some sort. I’d definitely call them.

Out of curiosity, what’s the price difference between that and CTS2?

As it should be considering you can nearly buy 3 Scan gauges to one CTS2.

I've used my Scan Gauge (now several years old) to pull two codes off my truck in the time I've had it but never attempted to use it for any inputs. If it will help, I can check to see which update mine is current on and try it out.

Scan gauge 2 apr. $160, CTS 2 around $400 give or take, although I'm sure both could be had for much less right now.

Good news! The folks at ScanGauge (Linear Logic) spoke with me about the issues and are sending me a “data logger” to plug into my truck for at least a 30 minute drive. They have included a return envelope and will read the data from my 2017 to update the X-Gauges. They also asked what else I wanted to see on my ScanGauge so I asked for Regen On/Off and a few other parameters. Will see how it goes but they were amazingly proactive this morning and I’ve already received notification the data-logger is on its way UPS at no cost to me.

Yes, I'll keep you updated. I really like the ScanGauge because of the size and the fact I can mount it easily inside the center cubby (see attached picture) without drilling any holes or having it in my line of vision like the window mounted units. It worked great on my old Ecodiesel and truly believe Linear Logic will provide all the codes needed to make it as useful for the 6.7.

nice place to put it, except I don't have the center console. I have a Blend Mount for the mirror that I used on my Nissan Titan, then my F250...haven't gotten around to see if it works on the Ram.

Count me in as being interested in your experiences. I checked mine last night and it is indeed outdated (version 4.05) but it would be well worth the $25 to upgrade if the inputs work as described.
Looking forward to hearing how it works out for you!

With the relative ease of programming changes, there really isn't any reason they can't have you up and going in a short time. Glad they are responding so well, even with such an inexpensive product. It could certainly be a niche gauge for the folks to don't need the expand-ability of the CTS2 and complexity of installation.

Not sure about the “complexity of installation” comment. One end of the CTS2 cable is plugged into the trucks OBD2 port and other end is plugged into the display unit. Suction cup to windshield and done.

Pretty sure its a little bit more then that.....EGT probe for one thing.

Doesn’t the CTS2 and the Scangauge II both get EGT readings via the OBD2 ? Yeah, one can drill and tap the manifold and add an EGT probe to the CTS2 for the actual temp(as compared to just reading the trucks computer). I didn’t add the probe to my CTS2 and find the trucks computer provides enough data points for my use.

Yep, Insight CTS2 reads the OE EGT sensors. Arguably not as good as a thermocouple in the manifold, but good enough for me. Literally plug-and-play, I stick my CTS display to the dash with emblem mounting tape. Works.

Update: Received two small data loggers that each plugged into the OBD port (one at a time). They said to plug the ECM Logger in, drive for 30 minutes until the readout says done, and then plug in the TCM Logger and do the same thing. One is to read the Engine CM outputs and the other for the Transmission CM outputs. I dropped both back in the prepaid envelope and they are on their way back today. Will let you know when I hear from the with the recommended list of X-Gauge codes. Hopefully well have the opportunity to have a fully programmed and working ScanGauge II by Christmas!

P.S. I trust this won't turn into a "Flame the other Guy's Monitor" as I've owned both the CTS2 84130 and the ScanGauge II for my old Ecodiesel, the CTS2 84132 for my current Cummins (which I gave to my son for his new Cummins) and am currently using the ScanGauge II on my Cummins. Both have a purpose and like the color of our trucks, each one has an individual following. I am just old school, am used to very simple digital readouts and don't need the gauges. On the other hand, my son wouldn't take a ScanGauge if you gave it to him as it's "too simplistic and dull". I'm just glad we all have a choice as there are plenty of monitors out there to the point we don't need to be hammering on each other for the choice.
