Just read Joe D. 's new article in issue 30 about the driveline... . I dont even want to go to the grocery now!! Having seen the included photos, I cant believe my whole gearbox hasnt just fallen out on the road yet. What the **** was NV thinking when they penned this unit? My 97 now has 82k on it and I guess Im gonna have to make some long distance calls right after I get Christmas paid for!LOL Still not happy with the choices for clutches we have... any input, guys?

Three of us from GLTDR are clutch shopping right now. Narrowed down to two.
Not Centerforce, not McCleod.
One has damper springs, one does not.
One is $1500, one is not.
One will hold 1900 ft #s, one won't.

Luckily, we all have some time left if we drive normal.

I wish we had more choices!!

Thanks MGM, let me know your choice when you make one. Mine will live a while longer if I behave as well. A full-race clutch assembly for my Porsche is less than $500... $1000 is freakin robbery. Any thoughts about the mainshaft fixes available?

I believe Standard Transmission's science is sound, but as with many parts on our trucks, only time will tell.

Remember, we are not driving a small block V-8 designed in the 1950's.
I guess we are all paying a price for performance.

I'M NOT TRADING!!!!

I've already ordered the exchange transmission from Standard Transmission. The article was convincing enough.

The worst thing about the NV4500 is all the time people like us have spent wondering what to do about it. Here is my opinion, just drive it, yes they will all fail someday, get a plan for when it happens (Std transmission is a good one) and pay to fix it when it fails.

If it aint broke don't fix it. Many people have driven with a failed 5th gear for 1,000s of miles. If your going to replace it anyway what do you care about a little metal in a transmission that will get rebuilt anyway. Besides, you own a Chrysler product and you may need the $$$$ for some other unexpected repair!

Don't get me wrong, I like my truck but not when I obsess over it. Thats my problem.

I am presently rebuilding a trashed NV4500 (broke half a dozen teeth off the cluster for 3rd) with parts from Std. Trans. including the mainshaft kit. They have been real good to work with. They know the parts with my relatively poor descriptions, send them quickly, and have everything in stock. I had to get an input, 3rd, cluster, shims, bearings, etc. I am doing the transmission that way, instead of pulling my original one and woring it over (it woul be a lot cheaper) so I can swap it quickly into my poor old sickly Ram, and minimize the time I impose on my friend and his rack at the dealership. You can read more about it in issue 31, hopefully.
