Yamaha or Honda Inverter generator question.

2 week trip tomorrow

here in about two weeks i will be towing a 25 foot gooseneck with tamdem duallies it is a deck over. I( will be towing from denver to moab. I will have a full size bronco on it and a jeep wrangler or samari. I will be pulling it with my 99 24v cummins extended cab long bed single rear wheel. the tires i have on the truck are load range D. I will be pulling it for about 5or6 hours there are two big mountain passes i must go over Vail pass and EIsenour pass. how do you guys think it will do? am i crazy for hauling that much wheight for that long on a srw? the truck is a manual. how much tongue wheight should i expect to have with all that weight asuming that i puty the bronco on back over the axles and the sami is up front it only weighs about 2000 pounds. so 2000 plus my 6000 pnd bronco is 8000 plust the 3000-4000 pound tralieris gonna be around 12 thousnad pounds.

Roby,

The weight is not the real issue here, the fact that you don't have much experience with this type of trailer and load is the issue. I do not think 12,000lbs is that bad, do not get me wrong, it is alot of weight but your truck should be up for the task. The mountain passes might mean that you will have to down shift and go a little slow up them. Good rule of thumb is to go down at about the same speed as you came up. Will you have a break controller in the cab? I hope that answer is yes. Sounds like your hitch weight will be somewhere around 2500 lbs. I would swing in to a local truck stop and weight the truck and trailer, this way you will have the right weight, some times things weight more then you think. Any how it is good to know, and should play a part in how you drive. I also hope you have an E-brake, they really do help with the braking. Just leave plenty of distance between you and the guy in front of you, no sudden moves and watch your speed. Good luck.

yes i have a brake controller and I do have some experience towing but like you said not with this trailer. last year i towed just my bronco on a trailer(pull behind) behind my suburban with a 350. and it did alright. and yes i have an e brake. what is the maximum towing cap. for my truck (tounge weight)

Pretty sure the max trailer weight is around 16k. 2500's go over the 8800# GVWR pretty easy if they are loaded and 4x4. I wouldn't worry to much about the hardware but your tires might be a little weak at load range D.

Your pin (tongue) weight is calculated by weighing the pickup loaded up like you normally drive it then subtract that from the 8800 GVRW what's left is how much pin weight the manufacture says your peacup can take. You also need to watch the axle weight ratings.

The trailer most likely weighs more than 3-4k. My 10 ton dual tandem Hudson brothers trailer (pintle hook) weighs 5500lbs. My 20 to Eager beaver air brake trailer weighs almost 9000. Just my . 02

FWIW,

Since weight might be an issue I'd try to back both the vehicles on the trailer to get more weight on the trailer axles.

I've pulled my my old 28ft Dutchmen(about 8000lbs), with my 21ft ski supreme( about 4000lbs)behind that over Eisenhower on I70, and it was not bad. The best suggestion I can make, is take it nice and slow on the downhill side. As you drop down westbound on I70 out of the tunnel, you might get a little confident. DON'T!

Just gear down, and take it nice and slow. You will be fine.

Good Luck

Big A
