Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Schedule A or B?

I'm not sure what the heck I read, but for some reason I was thinking the oil change interval was 5000 miles for the 24v.



My book has schedule A as 3750 miles and schedule B as 7500 miles. IMO A is too often, and B is not often enough. Should I just stick to 5000 miles? What are you guys doing?

I do 5K on everything I own. Now if I had a Durango with the V8 I would think about 2500 to 3000 as they have a know issue with sluge buildup. SNOKING

If I'm towing I use the 3750, otherwise about 5000. bg

10,000 oil and filter, engine now has 454,xxx mi. , will go to 15,000 mi interval soon which is what is recommended for ISB in medium duty applications.

5,000 here. Seems like oil is black after 500 though.

Looking at your owner's manual, it's hard NOT to meet the standards of the more severe schedule (B, is it?). All you have to do is operate the truck ONCE in cold weather, make short trips, tow, or whatever. It would be tough NOT to justify "B" by the manual's standards.

B means 3750 miles on an oil change. A is 7500 miles, IIRC.


You can pretty much ignore that. The newest oils (even dino) are VERY good, and I'd go 5K miles, even on Dino, even in the WORST possible operating profile.


I use syn and go 10K with a SEVERE use profile (nothing but cold starts and short trips). Towing is actually easier on these engines, imo, because it's what they are designed for.

True, but look at the oil capacity in the medium duty apps. WAY more than 3 gallons. Usually more like 10.


If your Dodge held 10 gallons in the sump, you could go 25K in dino, easily.
