RAM 2500 Quad cab long bed 4X4, 4. 10 limited slip, 07. 5 Build date in Missouri May 07. Inferno Red, Big Horn edition and Edge Insight gauge.
Replaced my early 01 with same setup except 3. 54 open rear end. . New truck does not have the camper springs option but will still haul two yards of sand with no problems. It has more power, the transmission is light years ahead and is why I traded up. I tow a travel toy hauler trailer around 8K with all the seats and bed full in the truck. After comparing the two rear ends I would never go back to anything less than the 4. 10. Also with the 4. 10 gears I can use 6th and keep the EGT's down. With the higher gears in the old truck
I have the Edge Insight gauge and monitor the EGT's on the emissions mostly.
My normal commuting is 20 miles and 45 minutes with a top speed of 45 mph.
I have had most of the CEL's listed and Dodge has been very good and fast to fix them all. I had been setting codes about every 2,500 miles since the truck had 4,000 miles on it. I now have 24,000. The last upgrade to the wrapped pipe and new O2 sensors with the latest software has improved the fuel mileage also a full 1 MPG. Also it has now been almost 4,000 miles since the CEL has come on and the last oil change was about 800 more miles between.
When new the mileage hwy 16 mpg and city 13. 4 mpg.
Now I get 14. 6 city and 17. 5 hwy. With a trailer it's varies between 10 to 14 caused by a tail or head wind.
Oil changes have averaged 2,200 miles. Now they are over 3,000.
I do produce a lot of ‘oil' between changes. I now only put 11 qts in and when I change it I drain between 13 and 14 qts. (sure glad they improved the drain plug)
With my driving style the truck goes into regen on average every 4,500 seconds (aprox. Every 1 ½ hours of driving) For me that is once a day. The gauge also flashes the second timer and when it hits 15,000 seconds it also wants to regen the DPF. The gauge also tells me how full the DPF is so I know when I really need to take a longer drive and let a full regen happen. I do this when the gauge says I'm in the 6's which I take to mean about 60% full. It then regens it down to the high 2's. One thing that is very noticeable is when it starts the regen and shuts off the EGR the power is increased a lot. It can be tricky as up here in the northwest the roads are wet a lot and it will step the rear end out real fast. There is that much difference in response.
The only thing I would change if I could, would be the EGR needs to be a lot less intrusive. A little more NOX would not hurt as the Diesel cat takes care of most of it and it would boost mileage. Also I wish the seats did not have the seam on the edge of the front that presses on your thigh.
All I can say is it's a great truck.
