If You Could Go Back In Time...

Ahhhh...I dented my truck...ahhh

USA today reports Schrempp had the opportunity to get Iaccoca back on board but says NO. I'm sure he is afraid of Iaccoca. Schrempp is an egotistical *** who makes sure everybody does things his way. Chrysler builds a good automobile. The latest Consumer reports says Chrysler has the fewest complaints per 100 vehicles of any US car manufacturer but still looses millions each quarter. Chrysler needs someone like Iaccoca, if nothing else as a PR man.

Iaccoca was great for Chrysler when he was there and they needed to get drudged back from financial ruin. However, I don't think he would be the answer today. Remember that he built the entire company on the K-car line almost exclusively. I don't know ANYONE who holds the K-car dear to their hearts! Besides, they'd just tie his hands like they are with the current management in the US. The brilliance of D/C is now at Chevy IMO with Bob Lutz. Car guys/enthusiasts should be designing and building the cars and the penny pinchers should be in the background. Unforetunately it's the other way around at D/C right now and IMO it's still that way at GM, hopefully Lutz will be able to turn that around. JMHO

Steve, If Iaccoca came back to help out i don't think he would be bringing back the K car. The thing is at the time he gave the people what they wanted. He can do the same now. If nothing else he is more trustworthy than Schrempp. As for the K car; at 16 I learned to drive in one of those. At 16 I beat that car up pretty good. A lot of hard miles and I don't ever recall that going in for a repair ever. Now don't get me wrong, you are right, it will never be a collectable but they were damn good cars for the time.

Boys, they need to hire somebody! While watching CNN Headline News this morning it said that since the DC merger Chrysler has lost 2 B I L L I O N dollars. Somebody has got to stop that hemorage!

Do you think that's because most owners don't bring their vehicle back for some 'quality' 5 star service?? :rolleyes: :p :-{}

I think its because they loose share to people wanting 4 full doors!!! I like the room in Dad's PHord:rolleyes:

They make some great cars and trucks but they always seem to just miss the boat.

I bought mine because of the engine. I could care less about the mopar part.

To get a 4 door w/a cummins I'll have to build one:(

But that'll be fun too:D

Don't think for a minute that Iaccoca doesn't wish he was in Schrempp's position. Remember, he tried unsuccessfully to buy Chrysler with Kerkorian several years ago. I don't think that DC makes a car big enough for both Iaccoca and Schrempp to fit their egos in. He's an OLD has-been that fooled a lot of people into thinking he was the good guy. Do you think Congress would have approved "rescuing" Chrysler 20 years ago if they thought it would just be sold abroad later? (That was the whole argument of the day - America needed 3 automakers. ) Iaccoca picked the management that accomplished that incredible feat right under the noses of our government. This is just one guy's opinion - please don't take it as more.

Right!

Those two egos would destroy the company! Lee did rescue the company from disaster, and the K car was probably the best of the early Detroit attempts at coming back. As for current management, I am told and I believe, that you have to save the company before you can set it's sights on expensive broadening of the product line. Now we see 14 new model intros in the next four years, and I think these are designed to put some excitement into the car line. I have been told by some one knowledgeable that we will see a crew cab "soon". If the new crop of cars looks as good on the street as they do in the pictures, then the money should flow, and we could get all we want in our trucks. Looking at the current quality ratings and the lack of problems with the 02 trucks, I think the priorities are in order, and we won't be dissappointed in the future.

JMHO
