Looking into turbos I've come across the odd remanned S3A and I am curious if this is equivalent or equal to the Schwitzer S300. It has the same size compressor inlet(3. 5") and what appears to be the same type exhaust housing as one off an HX35.

Also, is a re-manufactured turbo even worth the effort?(keeping in mind this isn't permanent)

To sum this all up I need a cost efficient replacement for the HX35 in my 98 12valve.

Thanks,

Mike

In your opinion what is cost efficient?

How much HP do you want it to support?

The first thing that comes to mind is an S300G, about $750 but you also need a $150 downpipe. The problem is it is not a much larger turbo than an HX35. It might best be compared to a Hybrid HX35/40 with a 14cm housing.

I'm looking at a turbo that will get me through until the upcoming summer. Something for a couple hundred bucks.

I currently have an HY-35 on my truck and obviously it just doesn't cut it. The thing spools fast and it's too much for a long endured load.

My main killer, living where I do, is shipping. A new HX35 is $1600 and finding a used one locally isn't easy either. If this S3A will work I'd like to grab it, but I need to be reassured that it will work.
