I just bought a 98 QC 12Valve Shortbox. The truck I had always wanted, even before I bought my 95. It appears to be in fantastic shape throughout. Drives perfect, 20-22 on the trip home at speeds from 60 - 85 mph. Yippee! Now save some cash for the Bombs! DK. Oo.

They are nice, we picked up the wifes 98, 127,000 mile, 5spd, 3. 55 geared, 12 valve, dwr last Friday.

She'd been bugging me for her own truck for years, said everytime she needed to pull the horse trailer, I needed the 1 ton, well that's not the case anymore.

Now to get on with all the maintenance issues on two trucks, man, this could be a full time job.

Congrats. Is it a 4X4 or a 4X2? I got my 98 12V QC 4X4 Long bed last month. Are you planning to do the KDP fix? I did mine the second weekend I owned it. I got 19. 2 to 19. 5 on the trip home driving 70-85 with a good head wind. My wife is getting about 15. 5-16 around town so far (she is learning how to drive a diesel).

I hope to bring that up to close to 17. Enjoy.

By the way I will be in Napa/Cauldwell (? spelling) this Sunday-Tuesday and a couple of days the following week.

Let`s answer the questions. First, it`s a 4x4. It apparently developed a leak behind the gearcase, so they had to pull the whole front apart, remove the cam, etc. At that time, the KDP was tabbed. It scoots really well. As the truck was repaired by a Cummins mechanic at his home after hours, I suspect it has had some help. If nothing else, it is at least properly timed. I do get a light haze out the pipe when I tromp on it. MUCH better than the old 95. I may hit the rollers to see where it is at power wise. If it shows stock numbers for HP & Torque, it probably needs #10, GSK, & make sure it has 14. 5- 15 degrees of timing. I feel like a pig in fresh mud! Texas truck, nice paint, good interior, drives like a dream. I am still getting used to the hydro-boost brakes. They are touchy, compared to the 95. I got lucky, the seller treated me well. Also enjoyed the trip, as we got to see both the real Alamo, & the set used by John Wayne for the 1960 movie. Very sobering at the real place. You have to respect the sacrifice on both sides of the debate. But the movie set, that just made me smile. Even though it is slowly degenerating, it is still cool. Both were smaller than I expected they would be. I guess the camera does stretch things somewhat. If I get the service out of this one I got out of the 95, I`ll be well pleased. Later, DK. Oo.
